Led Zeppelin and Kenny Loggins in a shmup.

Post by Damocles »

I shit you not. In God Panic Shijyou Saikyu Gundan, the music for the level one boss is Stairway to Heaven by Led Zeppelin, and the level two background music is Danger Zone by Kenny Loggins. Freakiest stuff I've ever heard. Throughout both loops, all the music seems familiar, but those are the only two I can put my thumb on. Oddly enough, the second loop switches things up a bit.

*shrug*

God Panic is the epitome of mediocre PCE shmups. Even Kenny Logins can't save it.

It is lackluster in every way, the enemy design for example is really inconsistent. I do like how the second loop of the game is like the "other side" in Silent Hill. Everything is the same but in darker colors and twisted slightly. *-neo

That sounds interesting. Not too many shmups use lincensed music. The only ones I can think of are one of the Parodius games and the US Biometal. The US Biometal definatly doesn't make good use of cheesy dance music (the Japanese Biometal sountrack is MUCH better), but I like the way the lincensed music is used in one of the Parodius games.

this makes god panic good (haven't actually played it though :D). funny backgrounds are key. sentimental shooting is also great.

I don't think the music is officially licensed, since there are little differences between the songs. As for the game itself, it's pretty lackluster, and incredibly easy. The backgrounds are bland, the enemies are bland, and the bosses are bland. Who knows why it's on CD...

Its worth maybe fifteen or twenty bucks mainly due to its oddness. All in all it is pretty damn mediocre. Very easy as well. The ninja cat is kinda cool as a main character I guess...
