Never played Futari because its a bajillion-dollar PCB and (more importantly) a Mushi game, played shiro 3 for a bit but i don't really like grazing mechanics unless it's Psyvariar

Yeah, calling me names is really going to help. :P An advisory to whoever's contemplating the next one, though - I think I've about reached my limit, so if anyone else puts up another of these silly things will almost certainly end up with a locked topic on their hands.

On topic, I've only played a little of each, but liked both offhand - would need some more time on the pair to contribute anything worthwhile.

danbo: has anyone spoken to you yet about IC'09? £15 entry and lots of the new shmups will be there on freeplay :)

BM: what was the difficulty curve like in shiki 3?

I've never played either, but I just know Futari is better. Does that count?

i voted for futari.....cave took what they started with mushi and tweaked and changed it all so it actually worked.....

original is way more fun than mushi original imo, maniac is awesome....the bullet cancelling gets nutty quick.....and ultra is brutal!!

awesome game..... :D

not that you asked me....i recon shiki 3 is harder than 2, mostly due to a lack of slowdown.

can't really vote on this, not played futari enough yet, recently got it actually but not really seeing why it's hailed as being so great, don't understand the scoring system in manic, do really like original mode though.

This appears to be a thread to troll the guys bashing cave in the top 25 results thread.

I approve.

I love Shiki 3. To death. Feels a bit ridiculous to vote for it against a game I never played - and even worse, one that would surely get my vote if I had - but what the hell, it gets my vote anyway.

that's interesting... :)

i'm one of those that i like futari quite a bit, but i'm not in love with it. i think the main selling point of both mushi's is having 3 different (non-looping) modes. but while i really liked ultra in the first one, there isn't enough slowdown in futari's ultra. in the first game, you can learn stage 1 & stage 1 boss no-bomb no-miss quite easily; but that's really not true for futari.... :? so i feel futari doesn't *really* offer as much as mushi, but the two modes that are accessible to 99% of players are probably better; but mushi has the better presentation...

i guess futari is kind of a best of both worlds, ie old-school original mode, and new-school maniac mode

I'm curious, and this is almost somewhat on topic: how fast is Futari's Original compared to Mushi's? Maniac is easier for me than Original on Mushi... "This is supposed to be a Cave game, there's not supposed to be bullets traveling 5 screenlengths per millisecond."

I haven't played Futari so I can't vote, but I own Shiki 3 and Mushihimesama. Based on the fact that Futari is made by Cave, and based on the vids I've seen of it, and how good Mushi is, I have a feeling it's much better than Shiki 3. I like Mushi better than Shiki 3 at least, and I doubt Futari is worse than Mushi.

Futari looks a lot cooler. I have never played either, and most likely never will, but I voted Futari in order to distort the data.

I've only played a couple of credits of Futari BL at that German shmeet (thanks to Jockel for explaining me the scoring system). Sadly, I've not yet played Shiki 3.

However, I'd have a hard time choosing between Mushi 1 and Shiki 2, as I love both games, although it's basically just Toaplan mode (Original) that I like about Mushi.

Nearly anyone motivated enough to have actually played Futari is likely to be a fanboy, so the vote is going to be off. A better comparison, imo, is Shiki 2 vs. Mushi. It makes no sense at all to me that Shiki 2 dropped off the top 25 this year.

Where is the "I haven't played either but I hate the shikigami series" option?

I came here to post this. Comparing Futari to Shiki 3 is just rude, you might as well compare Garegga to Pink Sweets while you're at it. No actually that would make some sense, this doesn't. Shiki 3's nothing like Futari.

I own both Shiki 3 on 360 and Futari 1.5 and I'll have to go with Futari. There's a bunch of things I dislike about both games but Shiki 3's level design and music just isn't notable at all. In retrospect, they both have mediocre first stages, and while Shiki 3 has a bunch of characters to choose from, people are only going to be using Reika or Kuga just like most people will end up using Normal Reko or Abnormal Palm in Futari.

"Nearly anyone"?

I played it @ sven666 a lot of times, as I can't afford it myself, but it's a blast EVERY TIME.. I've had Shikigami 3 for my PC for a couple of years (since it was new) and I never got the "this is fun, I even want to finish this credit" while playing it. I think I've played 1 full credit on it.
