I am one indecisive dude.

As one might have noticed from the thread in the trading forum, I'm looking to get a PCB to beat the life out of. I was originally thinking Ibara, but realized that was a bad idea. Then, Elixir suggested Mushihimesama, echoed by others. However, now, I'm thinking Dragon Blaze.

I have a total of around $230 at this moment, and I'm sure I'll sell at least my i-pode tutch relatively soon, whether here or locally, so that gives me some breathing room. According to Necronopticous, a Dragon Blaze PCB is around $150. This is incredibly reasonable, in my opinion. A Mushihimesama PCB is something like $350+. Now, of course, I'm looking to get a quick, tasty fix.

However, I could just play Dragon Blaze in MAME on a monitor for free. Otherwise, I'm stuck on a 5" Xbox LCD, much like this one

http://www.getestore.com/images/fp/xboxzionlcd.jpg

, whether I get Dragon Blaze OR Mushi. I've got a Saturn pad for each platform, and I could pretty easily get a stick working on each; it'd just be a matter of time. I really just started to play Dragon Blaze a couple of hours ago because I got the Saturn pad and wanted to try it out, and it is, as anyone who has one knows, INCREDIBLE. Having been raised on dualshocks, which have recently begun to hurt my thumb down to the base joint, this is an incredible epiphany :P

So, the question is: Do I get Dragon Blaze and an HD Box Pro so I can play it vertically on a 17" CRT of tastiness, or do I get Mushi and play it on a sh*tty little 5" LCD?

It's really up in the air...I certainly do need an upscaler, as the only thing I'm NOT playing on that little turd is Under Defeat on Dreamcast, due in total part to the generosity and utter coolness of iatneH, who sold me his DC VGA box. I mean, I play Dead Space and almost completely skip any text because it's impossible to read due to the size of the screen, and it's a real shame. I try to play DOJ and get gangbanged because the screen is so cramped. Even Gunbird 2, an anorexic Psikyo game, is utter hell because of this. That's not to say it's a worthless little pile of sh*t; on the contrary, the little friend has accompanied me on many an adventure and seen many a headshot. But now's as good a time as any to start changing things, and I'd like some opinions ^_^

(On another note, I'm thinking hard about getting another USB Saturn pad; they're incredible and I don't know how long they're going to be around. This is, of course, thinking a few years into the future, but I'd rather be prepared and not without this beauty; I don't think I could go back :P)

THANKS YOU GUYS, LETZ HAVES A GOOD DISCUSSION, EH?

Ach, but jpj, I suck at games! Especially rank-fests like Yagawa games lol. I'm superbly terrible at them. I sup-POSE I could spend this summer learning on Ibara... ^_~

See, that was what drew me to it in the first place. And Shinji Hosoe did the soundtrack! And it's all rock!

But again, I eat the shit of video games xD

For m3tall1ca,

You could graduate to a real RGB monitor with a supergun that outputs in RGB. I suggest picking up a cheap-ass 14" Commodore Amiga 1080 monitor will do the trick just fine -- it just would entail make a custom RGB cable going from the supergun into an 1080 monitor. The benefit would a bigger screen, the pureness of RGB over using Component Video output, and scan lines would be present as a bonus. It shouldn't be anymore than $30-$40 for one in good used condition. Just make sure that it doesn't have screen-burn-in issues. To see how awesome an Ibara PCB is compared to the filtered PS2 port of the same name, you will be blown away by how crystal clear and razor sharp that the PCB version outputs in pure RGB. You'll have no regrets having made an Ibara PCB purchase...I have no regrets myself having bought one. ^_~

Third vote for Ibara.

I'm not that great at shooters either but I've never let that stop me from having fun. Yeah it's hard game but once you pick up on the nuances of the rank system, it becomes incredibly addicting.

I would also vote for Ibara, especially as Arcade Shock is selling it for a fair price.

I'm also really bad at shoot 'em ups but I don't care because they are really addictive games and you learn more every time you play them.

PS. Please get a bigger TV for shumps.

i would vote for you to get a supergun and a decent screen....

what is the point of buying a game you have no way of playing and no decent screen even once you do get a supergun?

you are going about this all backwards my friend

but ya....get mushi.....if you want a game to beat on for a good long while, its perfect....3 modes, so you wont get bored....and its beautiful graphically

and if you are worried about cost look at it this way....say you buy mushi for like $450 (good luck finding it for $350) play the shit out of it and sell it 6 months-1year later(or whatever length of time)....when you go to sell it you will more than likely get back what you payed for it.....and you can buy another similarly priced game or tack on some more funds and upgrade to some newer cave stuff

also, if you plan on buying PCB's and playing them on LCD screens your crazy....it will look like ass.....and you will run into sync issues if you try and use stuff like the HDboxpro with some PCB's

save a bit more money and grab a supergun and even a smaller RGB monitor like a PVM or something(dont go smaller than 20in)...these are readily available on places like craigslist if you are patient....

THEN look into getting a nice PCB

if you want the experience of playing a PCB you need a decent screen....cuz if it just looks like ass, you might as well be playing ports anyways

I agree, there's no point in getting a PCB to play it on a 5" screen.

Also, they're still selling USB Saturn pads? I thought they were long gone.
Feedback will set you free.

It really is terrible... you think you've finally managed to understand how to not get brutally destroyed, and then the game just finds an entirely new way to brutally destroy you. Few games are able to do that.

JONNY, ALREADY GOT A SUPERGUN, BROOOO =O

Well then is there no damn way to play this shit VGA? Do all upscalers lag with everything, or just supergoons? Or is Jonny just...in a higher state of mind?

.RAR .RAR someone sell me your bare Ibara for $200 then =P This "GO GET A DAMN SCREEN AND IBARA =DDDD" shit better be doable with, like, 320 dollars, 'cause those are the only funds I can guarantee, and even then...=P

THANKS 4 ALL INPUTS N DISZKUSSIONS GUYZ, BUT IT REALLY DUZN'T SEEM LIKE SOME OF YOU GUYS READ THE 10-PAGE LETTER, er, I mean, FIRST POST ^_~

The solution is to get an XRGB upscan convertor to convert the RGB signal to VGA via Japanese Scart cable method. The XRGB-2 one has the fake scan-lines option for completeness. All the arcade PCBs that you now own and in the nearby future will definitely look great on your 17" CRT-based SVGA monitor setup. ^_~

And does your supergun have RGB and/or Component Video, S-Video and/or Composite Video outputs as well?

=O Out of curiosity, what method does the HD Box Pro use to upscale? I'm afraid that an XRGB-2 is going to slaughter my moneys =)

And as for what outs my supergun has, I've completely forgotten, and will have to look when I pick it up =P

OIDX! =D

yoyo bud, id suggest not picking up a dragon blaze pcb, since the port version of it is not that bad at all playability wise + cheaper. pcb i would go for ibara, just a plain bad ass game with sick bosses, sick music :). but thats my opinion lol.

When in doubt, sleep with a prostitute.

Totally doing this. Why the hell would I ever play a shooting game when I could sleep with a hooker instead?
