The Serious Sam games

Post by sethsez »

Anyone here a fan? I imagine that if any FPS was going to be popular around here it'd be this one, due to the extremely fast pace, insane number of enemies, and score system (I can't even remember another FPS with a score system). Personally, the game's Smash TV pacing and Second Encounter's over the top set pieces make it one of my favorite series, and Serious Sam II looks like it's going to be amazing.

I like it alright. Wish the level design was a bit better (why must everything be in the damn desert!?), but it definitely had solid gameplay and was fun as hell. And the bosses were incredible.

Can't wait for the new one though. :)

Consider me a fan! I'm really looking forward to the new Serious Sam game, as i find the humour and action to be spot on.
I actually like the no brainer FPS games like Doom, Serious Sam and Painkiller. The combo system that they used for the Gamecube version was excellent and a nice preview to what the vehicle sections would be like in the new game.

Did you ever play Second Encounter? If not, I HIGHLY recommend it... the level design is much improved, the arena battles are more varied, and it takes place in three different settings (a Mayan temple, Babylon, and medieval Europe). It's worth playing just for the final arena battle alone... HUNDREDS of enemies spawn in a gigantic field in front of a church as fire rains down from the sky (and yes, it can kill you). One of my all-time favorite moments in gaming.

I only played the XBox game. And sadly, I must admit I only got a little over halfway through it, though I don't recall why (I think I sold my Xbox while I was playing it).

The first one was ok but the second one was awesome. Played the hell out of them co op with a friend and had an absolute blast. You'd think that they'd use a Smash TV approach for the GBA version, but it just wasn't ment to be. :(

Really looking forward to Serious Sam II.

Thank god for OldManMurry, otherwise the game probably never would have gotten any publicty.

Heh... the Xbox game is actually a combination of the First and Second Encounters. The first half of the game is the original PC game, and the second half was its sequel. If you were halfway through, you were just about done with the desert (and the first game). :P

Ah, yeah, that was the final boss of the first game. After that you go to the Mayan temple and the level design actually gets interesting.

Dear god....playing that level in Serious mode....hordes of bone demons and kamikazies constantly bum-rushing you...not to mention the were-bulls. I shit you not when I say that the first section itself took over an hour.

I've tried that area on Serious mode... but I can't do it. It just kills me every single time.

Still something to shoot for, though. :)

I thought of that, but it's been so long since I played it I wasn't sure. Thanks. :)

i just wish the game had a little more tension and pacing. i really enjoyed them all on pc and gamecube but i don't think i could cope with another game which deteriorates into 'move into next room, get locked in, kill everyone, move into next, etc'

as long as they spend some time on the ai they could keep the encounters as high but actually make them more interesting. imaging fighting 50 intelligent machine gun dudes rather than 100 stupid guys shooting each other?

Actually, that's one of the things I love about it... it's so predictable. There are plenty of FPS with good AI, I like having one that's all about mowing down waves of enemies with my portable cannon. It's like Contra or Smash TV in first person. :D

I really enjoy the game, but I tend to get a headache and get nauseas when I play SS.

It is Smash TV in first person. If only it had the insane game show plot.

It could also use insane amounts of blood and decapitations, just something else to push it over the top.

Yeah, with this kind of game you can never be too over the top, but there's still something special about when a ton of kamikazes rush you, you shoot the one in front, and it sets off a chain reaction with a bunch of them blowing up. Stuff like that makes the game.

But in Serious Sam II, you're going to be able to ride a dinosaur. :D
