Super Robot Taisen OG Saga: EF for USA NDS on 4/28/2009
I noticed that there's an upcoming USA region NDS game by the name of Super Robot Taisen OG Saga: Endless Frontier with a release date of 4/28/2009. Plus it comes with a cool OST as well as a bonus -- is included inside the NDS game case btw. Not a bad deal at MSRP of $34.99 USD. As usual, Atlus USA is handling the English translation on this sci-fi RPG. ^_~
Here's Gamestop's preview spin on it:

Having tried out both Super Robot Taisen 1 and 2 on the GBA, they are quite cool, especially the 2nd GBA release. Some of the banter definitely poked fun at the well-endowed female characters. ^_~
Wasn't there an OVA of Super Robot Taisen DVD released in the USA not too long ago?

It's one of those turned based sci-fi anime RPGs that plays like the classic PC Engine game of Nectaris/Neo Nectaris (aka Miltary Madness on the TG-16 platform) of the player battling it out with the CPU controlled characters but with added in-game cut scenes to spice up the gameplay. Of course, you can disable the cut-scenes for faster gameplay but why would you want to do that? It features some cool anime inspired mecha suits duking it out in some key scenes. ^_~

Of course, this game plays nothing like the rest and the story is completely separate from the normal SRW stories, even the normal OG storyline. Endless Frontier is a traditional JRPG with battles focusing on timing-based juggle combos inspired by NXC or Valkyrie Profile. I think it's a fantastic game (I pre-ordered the JP version and have the US version pre-ordered) but most probably won't find it appealing at all.

I'd be willing to give this upcoming NDS game a spin and see if it is worth spending some quality time with. If not, then it will reside on the gaming shelf for posterity. At the very least, the OST would be nice to listen to on a regular CD player with it's 44kHz sampling rate. ^_~
Are there any SRW games available that do continue on with the usual gameplay tradition for the NDS platform?

Thanks for the 411 on those NDS SRT game titles, BrianC. It would be cool if Atlus USA could get them ported to the USA in English. ^_~BrianC wrote:Super Robot Taisen W and Super Robot Taisen K, both Japan only.PC Engine Fan X! wrote: Are there any SRW games available that do continue on with the usual gameplay tradition for the NDS platform?
Probably won't happen, though. These aren't SRT OG games and have the usual licensing issues.PC Engine Fan X! wrote:Thanks for the 411 on those NDS SRT game titles, BrianC. I've been a huge fan of the Super Robot Taisen series. However those who are seeking traditional SRT gameplay won't find anything like it in this game. However, this game DOES have a connection with the OG series.
That being said, this game is really damn awesome. Those that have played Namco X Capcom on the PS2, this game's battle system is just like it, but better.

I enjoyed NxC despite the fact that it was laughably easy. How's this one in the difficulty department?SFKhoa wrote: That being said, this game is really damn awesome. Those that have played Namco X Capcom on the PS2, this game's battle system is just like it, but better.

This one is significantly harder, since the only thing that differs from NxC and this game is that it's not 1 vs. 1 like NxC was.Cthulhu wrote:I enjoyed NxC despite the fact that it was laughably easy. One of the main things that made NxC too easy was that fact that you got a lot of healing items and you could use them pretty much anytime; even on an opponent's turn IIRC. Can you still do that here?SFKhoa wrote: This one is significantly harder, since the only thing that differs from NxC and this game is that it's not 1 vs. 1 like NxC was.

The text in the game is pretty dumb. I skip through the bulk of it just because I had enough tit jokes after the first five minutes. Aside from that the combat is pretty cool, I've got the cancel timing down pretty well so I can get a special off every battle now. Aside from that I can say that the character roster is pretty bland so far. I wish tits weren't the focus of this game

The word "bombs" is mentioned in this USA version of Super Robot Taisen OG Saga: EF -- the main character seems to be smitten with the princess from the very first time he laid eyes on her when she was sleeping. Her traditional garb would seem to be painted-on clothing (or at the very least, super-skin tight clothing that a wardrobe malfunction is possible at any given second). ^_~
Altus USA even got in with the boob jokes with the earlier GBA Super Robot Taisen: Original Generation 2...yeah, there were some busty femme characters in that one as well. ^_~

Aaaaagreed. Unfortunately that's very unlikely. Jumping through the hoops necessary to release the real SRW games in English wouldn't be worth it sadly.Erinu wrote:Atlus need to pull their fucking finger out and stop releasing shitty games or spinoffs, and release the REAL SRW games in english. Um. Are you thick? Atlus are allowed to release Banpresto + Namco games for the DS, so what makes you think they won't release them for PS2? But they do have a lot of text, so it will take a lot of time. I get the feeling the only way the PS2 will continue to live is by shitty dating sims being released in Japan and already released JP titles that are localized by NIS or Atlus.Shumps4Free wrote:Aaaaagreed. Which real SRW games are you talking about? The ones with countless numbers of licenses? They tried to release PS2 OGs but SCEA wouldn't allow them without getting new voices, which obviously wouldn't have been worth the time since it's not like the GBA OG games did all that well.
It's pretty well known that they haven't been allowed to license Namco-Bandai's games so that sounds more like trolling there.

The little animated segments of the boss fights are quite a sight to behold. The fan service is great for those into sexy anime gals. Some of the femme characters would make for some awesome PVC figurines or articulated posable action figures. ^_~
Who was/were the artist(s) that did the all the female characters featured in this DS game btw? Aschen has quite the smartass mouth to go with her smoking bod. Yeah, it's true when you gather up a large entourage of females, the potential for cattiness, sarcasm and put-downs increases even in real life. ^_~
