Fire Shark

Another rounded off score I'm afraid :?

Fire Shark PCB - Setting: Normal - 2 life start
DEL - 25,000,000+ - Loop: Many (can't remember/sorry!)

I crashed the game out on purpose during the 5th hour in Olli's arcade in Holloway Road. I was getting bored. Another Holloway arcade local got 38mil not long after. He was the guy who did 24 loops of Flying Shark in Finsbury Park arcade (cerca 12mil on that one). I was playing on only 2 life start, as Olli knew we were knocking this game around and he decreased the lives, but it still didn't matter

The number of lifes you got really don't matter in the hands of expart player, but yet the acrade owers doesn't seems to understand this. :x

IMO how long a player can surive for a certain shmup is totally depends on his/her skill. Once the player reaches the stage he/she cannot handle, the player would loss all the lifes he/she got in a matter time, especial in those shmups which is hard to power up. (e.g. Gradius) :o

Decrease the number of lifes at start only decrease the play time per credit of a novice player (of which won't last long anyway.), and got no effect to expart player. :x

To decrease a expart player play time per credit, you have to set the game to hard/very hard. But then novice would be killed in sec... :?

I always think the acrade owners who set game to hard/very hard or decrease the number of lifes at start is too mean. :x As most of the money comes from the novice gamers, harder settings got impact to them and decrease their already short play time. This would in turns make less people play the game.

If there are start to have people able to loops forever, the acrade owner should introduce a new shmup game instead. :o Although you could loops for hours, you won't do it every day or even week. That's boring, right?

You might do it once or twice a month just for fun. But if there is a new game, you would probably focus your energy at it instead, right?

Anyway, that just what I think. Acrade owner actualy found vs. games especial muti-players vs. game is the most profitable genru, and decrease the number of shmups cab...

3,114,500 - megadrive (PAL)

i died stright away on the 2nd loop. my biggest problem with fire shark is those kamikaze planes in groups of three. they're so fast on the 2nd loop!

UBN got 36,000,000
Mills got 100,000,000 - a proper counter stop.
DEL & KAC got 25,000,000 - crashing it out on purpose after 5 hours.

Japanese player 'EXCHANGER' also matched Mills with 100.000.000+α

12 Loops clear Remaining X 10

Other Japanese Arcadia records list 10.000.000+α as the counter stop.
So, whether my 25,000,000 counts as a 10.000.000+α counter stop is unclear, depending on the version we were playing in the arcade (which had a 2 life start & Normal skill level & most likely Euro version).

Suffice it to say, Mill's 100.000.000+α cannot be questioned in this regard.

Edit: Gemant's Arcadia records list the 2Player version counter stop as: 10.000.000+α
We were playing the 2Player version, but it was Euro.

463,260 Stage 03-09
All settings MAME defaults.

The way I'm playing probably is more demanding than it needs to be...this score isn't nearly as high as I'd like, but I've put a solid three hours into it tonight and I'm pleased with the progress I've made over recent plays.

This was my favorite arcade game as a kid (because i could play all day on 1 credit), so I finally got some time at work to play for a while:

Stanski 48,880,500 09-01 PCB

I actually had to quit because a customer came in, I got back to the game eventually but found my huge life stock had vanished :-(

No Miss-No bomb on first 2 loops :-).

Also, I'm kind of worried that my loop number is incorrect judging by others scores. I swear I was paying close attention though, and that i only completed 8 loops.

48mil is a great score stanski. Your loop count seems good. I crashed my game out after 5 hours, I just grew weary of it at that point, plus the fact that I had nothing to compare it with at the time (1990). My mate Mills had more stamina, he managed 100mil.

Stanski 60,980,890 1?-08 PCB

Last credit at my bowling alley for this game unfortunately, they are getting rid of the cab (and someone already bought it :-(). The genesis version sucks too, and I don'tthink i ever want to play this game again after this marathon today.

They have probably made a fortune off of me over the years though... I don't even want to know how many credits of this game i've played, though i've definately wasted way more money on galaga and snow bros.

Work not over

stanski - You still need to chase Mills' 100,000,000 score, reaching the loop 10+ where the game stops awarding bombs.

# 0.128u1: Guru added clones Fire Shark (Korea, set 1, easier) and (Korea, set 2, harder). Fixed rom names. Changed description of clones 'Same! Same! Same!' to 'Same! Same! Same! (2 player alternating ver.)' and 'Same! Same! Same! (2P Ver.)' to 'Same! Same! Same!'.
The 2 player alternating ver. seems harder than the 2P simultaneous ver., though I have no clue on the Korean versions' difficulty.
