Great to see this is finally coming stateside. $19.99 vs. spending several hundred dollars for each PCB is a great bargain. I don't understand why they wouldn't just put the ver 2 patch on the disc though. :?

I'd like to know this as well. And if so, do they take as long to unlock as the PCB and I assume they stay saved?

On the Valcon games site, for features it lists TATE and also "visual filters"

On the Valcon games site, for features it lists TATE ("full screen on a rotated display") which is no surprise since it's a port of the Japanese rev. But it also lists "Visual filters to simulate classic display types or change the feel of the game." So maybe they already included the scanlines update on the disc? Anyways, I posted about this on their forum and also asked if they plan on bringing over Raiden IV or contacting Cave about DOJ and Ketsui (worth a shot).

Just picked up my copy at gamestop.

Looks like all the display options are here, FPS selection, filters, scanlines, overscan, scanline intensity, brightness, etc.

Has anyone tried the US version in a Japanese 360?

*splutters* It's out? This is indeed good news!

[EDIT] Yep, Estarland have pulled my preorder forward from the 20th to the 11th.

I think Valcon need to have a better relationship with their distributor...

I guess I am the only who bought this today. I am #1 on the US leaderboard for RF1 normal mode with my awful 4.3 million score. :)

I'm glad I checked back in here...just had my woman pick up the only copy at Gamestop. Supposedly the dude behind the counter wanted it, but the other associate didn't know that.

I picked it up as well today. I lucked out. I was just looking around and saw one of the guys working there (gamestop) gutting a store copy. I was like "Can I have one of those????" It looks and plays great.

I like all the screen options. This way I can get it to look exactly how I want it to. The scanlines are a nice touch. I run my 360 using vga so I wouldn't be able to get the scanline function working on my xrgb-2 so this comes in handy.

Wow, I'll need to check our local stores tomorrow to see if it's out here.

Valcon responded to my question and confirmed that scanlines are in to which I heartily thanked them. :) Nice that we won't have to wait for a patch.

yeah, it's locked. my friends copy didn't boot in my japanese console.
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

Just grabbed this, and I like it. Nothing more than what you've read about or expected from a RF port, but what it does it does well.....kudos to Valcon, I hope they bring more over...

Ddin't realize this was out, surprised as shit when I saw it at Gamestop. Picked up this, Bangai-O spirits and a case of Sierra Nevada Torpedo IPA. Good times tonight.

All of the ingame text is translated. Very literally, I might add (shades of Castle Shikigami and SNK engrish abound).

Yeah, I'm #1 in Griffin on RFJ at the moment... at 20mil. Haha.

I don't suspect I will be forever, but as someone whose just now seriously started playing the game, I actually kind of like the Griffin's Laser weapon. I'll probably stick with it.

Got mine today at Gamestop. :) Made sure the clerk gave me a sealed copy too. I hate how with they always try to give you the display case with a loose disc!

Anyways, fantastic collection. It's a real treat for me because the last time I played RF 1 and 2 was briefly 5 years ago while on a short trip out of town. I've been having a blast playing with the various slave ships in RF 2 for the first time (especially Miclus :) Placed 28th with him on the leaderboard, tag is ATeam1CC). Still holding off on my first serious go at RFJ, maybe tomorrow after I cut my teeth a little more. Thanks to a no doubt low print distribution coupled with no Japanese on the leaderboards, I placed #4 earlier tonight on RF1 with the MK II's slave.

Important question on set up. Which scanline and refresh settings are best to go with respectively on both a plasma w/component and when I'm using a '98 model SDTV w/composite (my trusty TATE tube)?

Went to Game Crazy today and the clerk said they got no copies in because they "only get popular titles in" unless someone preorders and no one apparently did.

That's what's great about buying a game like this early, you get the temporary glory of being ranked well. Right now I'm first with the Ixion and 2nd overall. Nice to recognize people from the forum.

Loving this compilation -- yesterday was my first time playing these, excluding a few quick rounds on MAME. I really haven't been able to put this down.

So the US release is pretty much JP RFA with both patches hardcoded onto the disc? I was hoping so... (being dead serious here). Picking up a copy as longterm backup for sure, I hate relying on patches for bugged discs. Huge respect to Valcon for taking the time to do this.

Yeah, I'm extremely impressed with this port...and I've only touched RF1 so far! I never played the Japanese version but this feels very polished and very well done.

It was a daring move to release at $20 and I hope that they are rewarded for it. BUY BUY BUY!!!

I do think it's very interesting that you have to select a separate "Xbox LIVE" mode to be ranked on the leaderboards...I figure that they're not going to be very populated because of that =( But whatever, I made the top ten on a leaderboard for the 2nd* time!!! (RF1 Arcade Normal)

* The 1st was in Boom Boom Rocket, Hard combined leaderboard. But that was a long time ago...I'd be surprised if I was still in the top 50 by now.

Apologies if this has already been answered...Is there a way to make the "hidden" ships selectable aside from pressing the A+B buttons on the random select? I'm waiting on my copies to ship from Amazon but in the demo this is the only way to access them and it seems to take me several tries sometimes....
