Triggerzone's Top 25 Shooters of all time
Triggerzone's Top 25 Shooters of all time
We had our own little vote (53 participants) over at the German language board. Actually a Top 15, but I'm posting the top 25, so it can be compared to the shmups.com list.

Out of Senko no Ronde, Border Down, and Under Defeat, #10 and #18 looks pretty fair. Might seem like too much credit because UD happens to be #10. Nothing like the too much Treasure and Cave credit at any rate, especially when Batsugun doesn't place.
Of course, you will get homogeny when you conduct a poll of people who know each other IRL. The games that placed under the top 25 have more variety though. I think what you meant to say is that there should have been some Takumi and Psikyo.

Anything in the top 50 for G.rev looks funny because they're second rate. Don't really care about Takumi (Capcom), but you can bet Zero Gunner 2 spanks Under Defeat. Even if ZG2 should've been better (harder). Under Defeat has a cooler case and is more collectible, though.Enhasa wrote:I think what you meant to say is that there should have been some Takumi and Psikyo.
Here's stgfan (swe) votes done this year. A little less than 20 voters, so some outsiders got in - and, yea, futari/bl aggregated. Members of KDF should note the 6th place for ketsui!

That's a very good way of putting it. There are also legitimate reasons for some people not liking it, such as the anal scoring system and the fact that you only have to dodge half the bullets. Personally I love all that but I can understand some people not.jpj wrote:everybody else likes it, so it's lost any potential esotoric nerd cred
it's a good game![]()
Anyway, what's up with Musha Aleste being so high up?

"I think Ikaruga is pretty tough. It is like a modern version of Galaga that some Japanese company made."
Zero Gunner 2 edge out Under Defeat for my personal list of top 25. I used to really be into Under Defeat, but I am not so drawn into it as in the past where I still am having a blast with Zero Gunner 2…Rob wrote:Anything in the top 50 for G.rev looks funny because they're second rate. And why is this a bad thing?kengou wrote:Anyway, what's up with Musha Aleste being so high up?

Overall, I am quite please with the games preference of the Germany folks

Good taste spread across the board!
Outside of any personal preference for Under Defeat or Zero Gunner 2, I'm curious as to why people insist on comparing them. They both feature helicopters and have a rotation mechanic, but the designs are from completely different schools of thought. They're both excellent games in their own right, but one might as well say that Strikers is not as good as Fire Shark.
It does seem a bit odd to say that G.Rev is second rate, though. They can hardly be classed as such in terms of companies that actually make shmups anymore. Since this is an 'of all time' list I can understand the criticism, but we all know that the games that people actually play and rank in these things aren't 'of all time'.

We here shall not rest until we have made a drawing-room of your shaft, and if you do not all finally go down to your doom in patent-leather shoes, then you shall not go at all.
I dunno. UD is certainly old school in flavor, but it has some pattern-heavy spots. ZG2 is just Psikyo-school, which is its own thing. Point being that G.Rev didn't set out to make a Psikyo game, and they didn't make a Psikyo game.
