Historically, ESPGaluda and ESPGaluda Arrange Mode have been counted as the same game. I would rather not split them this year. Votes for the PS2 version will continue to cover both modes.

If your concern is due to the listing of ESPGaluda (ARC) (as opposed to ESPGaluda (PS2/ARC)) in last year's results, I don't plan on omitting the PS2 text from this year's results listing. Additionally, I will strive to list the target platforms in order of their standing relative each other, where sufficient information is available.

Meh. I predict another Cave fest, but... I voted anyways.

... ironically, a Cave game is in my top 10 (Death Smiles, which is fecking amazing) and then I threw in ProGear down at the bottom. I wanted to vote for Ketsui because it looks awesome and I love Ketsui Death Label... but since I am yet to play Ketsui proper, I refrained from doing so.

So next year I might actually have three Cave shmups in my top 25. And two of them might even be in my top 10.

Never the top 5 though, Radiant Silvergun, Batsugun Special, and Tecno Soft (TRUE Tecno Soft) will always dominate those spots.

Also threw in a vote for Space Invaders Extreme because I saw folks voting for all kinds of wacky shit, so I figured, why not?

Batsugun Special is virtually a Cave shmup in all but name, though. Similar-ish team (iirc) and their last shmup as Toaplan before Donpachi ;)

What aspect of PaperBoy isn't a shmup? The Inertia thing is the only thing I see that's off.

Deliver-em-up.

Actually the inertia isn't what makes it different, it's mainly the training course. I dunno, this game should count, and after playing it for the first time in a while in MAME I think it deserves to be on somebody's list.

Their are lots of shmups with bonus levels. The fact it only gives you one chance to beat only reimburses it's shmup-ness. Or is it because it has jumping?

Of course, Moon Patrol has jumping, and so do the shmup-like sections of the Konami Trio from Sunset Riders to Mystic Warriors. Yeah, it's just a bonus round.

I had never thought of Paperboy as a shmup because the intended targets (subscribed houses) do not get destroyed. However, I can understand why one would consider Paperboy a shmup, so I'm not opposed to it receiving votes.

Let's make a deal: vote for only 25 titles (in accordance with the rules) and you can make one of them Paperboy. :)

Alright sure.

Edit:I'm not doing any thing else wrong am I? I didn't really follow the whole discussion on how to rank it.

I know, I just... don't understand how they can go from Batsugun Special to garbage like DonPachi. =X

Thunderforce IV will always be one of the greatest shmups of all time. It`s one of the most amazing games every.

Cave games rule the majority of my Top Shmup lists along with the very few Shmup games by Technosoft and Treasure.

If you're playing Paperboy for score you're pretty much aiming for as high a destruction rate as possible (on non-subscriber houses)

To be fair, I'm something of a Cave fanboy (not in that I like all of their shmups by any means, but at least 3 of them are all-time favourites) and even I'd admit that Batsugun Special is light years ahead of Donpachi :P And Dodonpachi, for that matter :D

Then we're on the same page. :D

I used to despise Cave awhile back, when all I had played by them were the 'Pachis, whichever ESP game is on MAME, ProGear, Dangun Feveron, and Guwange (though I would admit to loving ProGear and finding DF good), but I'm starting to warm up to them. Death Smiles is absolutely brilliant and, in my opinion, is probably the best designed shmup of all time in so far as providing something for people of all skill ranges.

And if Ketsui Death Label is any indication I predict that I will love the hell out of Ketsui when I finally get to play it. All the videos I've watched of it certainly have me hyped. :)

Not too excited about the Mushi game though... I didn't like what I played of that one on my friend's PS2. But, as long as we get Death Smiles II, I'll be happy. :)

I probably should have given Death Smiles more of a chance - I had the PCB, but sold it fearing the price would soon plummet still further ;) That's Cave collecting for ya  Was definitely fun, though :D

Ketsui is indeed AMAZING! I really want to buy the PCB back at some point, as it's one of an incredibly small number of games I just can't live without. Guwange would be my favourite overall, though :D Progear probably third - though that's probably semi-controversial, given that even by their own admission, Progear was Cave's 'Hori experiment' and Death Smiles was more Cave's style tailored to to the Hori format!

In fact, all 5 are... since the one that is almost right has no space between the points and the title :P

I think it'd also be a good idea to contact people who haven't filled in their placeholder posts, and people who retracted their lists before the really high qualification percentages were lowered.
