Good games indeed
Dale wrote:Sonic R I'm shocked you never 1cc'd any Raizing games, or Mushi for that matter.
Raizing? LOL - I've only played heavily of Garegga and Souky. Maybe if I could play more of Batrider I could possibly get a Normal clear?
For Mushi, the true last boss gets me
To answer the OP: YEARS. I was in high school, having played shmups & video games in general for years before I got my first 1CC. I was a continue whore until I discovered this website, and realized I was missing out on the masochistic pleasure of playing the 1st 3 levels of a game OVER AND OVER AGAIN.
Seriously, though, a 1CC is a great accomplishment, and I've had enough of them to get the fever.
captpain wrote:Well, Bakraid Normal and Batrider Normal are almost not meaningful 1ccs in my opinion, in that they are really really easy to get.
Way to crush our spirit.
Played shmups off and on since i was a kid in the 80's and probly never 1cc'd any of them. Then visited this site and learned about this thing called '1cc'.
3 months later, after 50hrs of effort i had my first 1cc - Battle Bakraid. And i'm proud of it, regardless of the many forumites that are god's gift to shmups.
I play for score and survival, avoid bombing, and avoid strategy threads and replays, which all slow my 1cc progress considerably.
OK, I guess they're not extremely easy, but I would consider Advanced to be the "real" 1cc. Which I haven't gotten on either.

there rank games , upset that rank to much and id certainly consider both good 1ccs.
I still haven't got a 1CC. I really don't care all that much. When I start playing well I tend to get reckless, then I die. I don't play for score either. All I enjoy in shmups is the meditative quality they give. If I played for something outside of pure gameplay enjoyment, I'd stop playing.

still working on my first 1 credit completion as wel [ I can get very far in the first loop, level 5 of donpachi ].
I love shmups (especially those for saturn), but I'm a mere grasshopper compared to many of you shmup gurus.
oh, and whoever has 1cc'd Soukyugurentai Otokuyo , mad ups.
Uhm... something like 80 hours for Perfect Cherry Blossom.
I was using the analog stick of a PS2-esque Logitech pad, OK? On a USB port with unadjusted polling rate. And my dog ate the instruction manual. And it was dark. And I was hammered most of the time.

Heh true that, for the longest time in BB i would voraciously chase after every powerup. Didn't really know much about rank at the time. And i've still yet to try suiciding in any game.
I played Lords of Thunder for years until I got to where I could play through the entire game on the Normal setting without taking one single hit. Talk about obsessive.
The first more difficult shooter I ever 1cc'ed was the first Dodonpachi and it took me about 9 months of steady playing in the evenings. I normally don't feel this great need to 1cc a game anymore, given the lack of time I have to play, I just like to enjoy the shooters.
captpain wrote:Then again, rank is barely an issue in Normal.
There you go crushing spirit again. Rank is a big issue in normal if you pick up every powerup. I only know that because i was playing the game wrong.
Haha, I'm not trying to crush your spirit. I was doing the same thing until I read a bit.
I mean more like rank worrying about extends and restarting the medal chains and so on... no suiciding is required, nothing fancy. Just don't pick up every powerup and play the game for a week or two! The actual dodging in Batrider Normal is really straightforward and just becomes a matter of memory, apart from maybe the last stage.
Gunbird is my only really meaningful 1CC, that signature is supposed to be a bit of self mockery as the rest are just easy console clears.
Gunbird took me well over a year to clear the first loop as there were various sticking points and moments of frustration. Whenever I feel like a game is getting irritating I drop it for a while. I don't like to make my favourite games into endurance tests.
I actually didn't play the game for a while as I had to focus on life. When I came back to it I spent a few hours on it and practised the tricky stages until they became second nature. Soon enough it just happened.
I still have nightmares of the random bosses and the dragon spams of the penultimate stage. I constantly used to freeze up whenever the dragon appeared and then it was game over. The last stage was a walkover in comparison.

Same here with the powerups. Man, no wonder I suck at Bakraid...
Come check out my website, I guess. Random stuff I've worked on over the last two decades.
espgaluda (ps2), after about 2 months of casual playing. i wasn't just going for the 1cc, i was going for score and just beat it one day. the only other one i've managed so far is mushi arrange. that one took a little longer.
I tried forever to get past the true last boss on raiden fighter jet (AC), but, it never happened
I wouldn't consider death smiles a meaningful 1cc. it's a great game, but it's definitely one of the easiest 1cc's

XBLA: h8erfisternator
The only one ive cleared on 1 credit so far is Sengoku Blade (1st loop), and that took about 2 months of playing every day and several hundred credits. I reckon i could do Gunbird if i applied myself to that in the same way, I've been to the dragon boss of doom on level 6 so far
It takes me an eternity to get good at these games, Homura for example it took me absolutely ages to consistently get to level 4, even now my best run is only to the second form of the level 4 boss
My only shmup achievement so far was years ago when I 1cc Life Force on my cousin's NES. Can't wait for my copy of Salamander Deluxe Pack Plus to arrive so I can try it again!
My first was Thunderforce III, which I consider meaningful because it was the first Genesis game I owned. Only, back then I don't think I could make it past even stage 2! Typically, I stop playing a game seriously once I can get to the last level or boss on a credit. I did, however, 1cc Under Defeat on easy, and believe I've beaten it on normal with 4 lives.
Someday I'll 1cc Souky.. I've come close, but I'm probably horribly out of practice now.
I'm also a big fan of these pre-1996 games.
You're not alone!
First clear? R-Type, took about 3 months. I was twelve years old at the time.
First meaningful clear? Garegga, took about a year of solid study, back in 2002. It was the only game I played during that period of time.
Fastest clear? Probably a week, for a number of games (Darius Gaiden, Air Gallet, Dragon Blaze being three that come to mind).
X-Out, C64 1990. Can't remember how long it took because it was that long ago, but it was no longer than a few months. I was certainly finished by the time Turrican started appearing in magazines.
Mills wrote:Probably about 8-10months to 1st loop strikers1945, and then about 2yrs to 2nd loop.
Holy shit, that's 2 years dedicated to a single game!
I'll probably never try to 2nd loop any game (unless it's ridiculously easy - Axelay, Zero Wing, etc.). Just to 1cc one of these new shooters is enough accomplishment for me....
I don't have the endurance to play a game for 8 months or so. After work I'm too tired to play Shmups and my reaction times are slower than on holidays.
In the most shooters I die in the 4th stage.
A 1cc is really something I'm looking forward but I'm not traininig hard enough I guess.
one day maybe, but i get major gaming ADD and need to play other games to switch things up, or else i get bored.
games i really like and would like to one day 1CC include: Under Defeat, (Do)Donpachi, Guwange, and now one of the Raiden Fighter games (not sure which one yet, but i like them all a lot).
