He was about 38 when he did Return of the Jedi. The makeup put about 40 years on him
I remember reading an interview with McDiarmid in SW Insider years ago, he said the makeup for the Emperor in RoTJ was so tight and heavy it left stretch marks on his face at the end of the day.
