Progear bootleg

Post by thamasha69 »

I have been searching off and on over the past year regarding Progear CPS2 boots. I know there was that guy on ebay uk selling phoenixed boards with new (incorrect) labels and whatnot, but I also remember an old post on this board of some Hong Kong made boots....something about the game and motherboard connected as one (not like your standard A and B board CPS2 setup).

Does anyone have any other info on these? Or pics would be great?! I am fascinated by pirate hardware/software and would love to see and learn more about these Progear boots.

anyone with an eprom programmer can take rom images and change the game on a cps2 board. they're probably just taking cheaper cps2 games, swapping eproms and flipping them.

You don't want these HK books, the quality is abyssmal.

The quality deosn't look so bad (unless those boards shake loose-- they looked pretty clean, though). I'd certainly consider one of those. Progear is expensive

Progear is expensive. Instead of playing it on mame, I think I'll buy some pirated hardware instead.

In what way? Since Progear is so damn expensive + the suicide part I have been thinking on buying one of those.

I've never understood the drive to buy bootlegs of games that are 100% emulatable for personal use.

QFT
The only thing I even remotely get is people that buy those huge 400 or 1066 in one things that can't be assed to set up a pc , jpac, and video card and front-ends like maya in their cabs/superguns. Paying good money for boots that have no real collection value is just weird to me.

have you ever built a mame cab? it's not cheap, it's not easy, and it is not 100%.

I'm thinking about gettin one of those 100 in 1 MVS. I hate waiting fo a pc to boot too.

I got a bootleg Progear and I'm really happy with it. I've taken it around in a backpack and nothing has come loose, but the best part is that it is suicide free.

Given how infrequently I play (2-3 times per year), and the rest of the time it's just sitting on my shelf and I can't be arsed to check the battery, it's nice being able to just dust it off on a whim and not have to worry about whether it died since the last time I played.

It plays the same or better than MAME as far as I can tell too.

I am not a fan of emulation and want to use one of these on my supergun/xrgb setup. I love things like this and it would be nice in my collection. And, as others have stated, Progear is expensive. I want to be able to play the game sans emulation w/ my main setup (already have it via emulation on PSP, xbox via fbaxxx, and mame on pc).

I was wondering if those of you have a bootleg Progear could tell me if the "Memory check" in the Setup menu passes on program ROM 0 & 1 ?

I had a bootleg Progear once. Some HK store sold it to me supposedly not knowing that it was a boot, even though the damn colour of the casing was grey  (only green and blue versions were made, for those that don't know) And they even charged me shipping back and forth when I wanted to return the damn thing :x

I've got one, and I'd do it, but it's all in Japanese. Can you direct me to the correct number/setting on the test menu?

So I checked it out, and Rom 0 and 1 give me "NG" in red letters.

Thank you! Now we know that if a Progear has NG on ROM 0 & 1 it is definitely a bootleg.
