What do you think of this Progear 1CC?

Ok, I hate these sort of gloating threads, but this game has been a thorn in my side for a while. Finally, I took down old Volvox (I always call him "the vulva fox" in my head).
Now, my score is just terrible by Progear standards: 10,190,950 (Japanese Default).
So, does this actually make it a bit more impressive since there are continuous 1-ups to be earned, and I fell short of even making the third one? Or, does it just make it kind of sad that I can't score better in this game?
Also, I feel a bit robbed by the high score screen. Give me a 1-ALL you cheap bastard game. I don't want to see "Stage 5" next to my name after taking down the first loop.
What about you guys? This is the only Cave game (I think) where you get continuous 1-ups. I have to think that Capcom probably pushed for that. It just doesn't seem "Cave" and doesn't seem necessary either given the difficulty of the game (first loop at least).

After watching Clover-TAC's superplay of Progear No Arashi on DVD-R conversion from master VHS tape that I did for a fellow shmupper, I'd have to say that it is an impressive feat unto itself. Sure, the audio has been upgraded to CD quality 44.1kHz format and the video looks great if upconverted to 1080p on a capable HDTV setup from standard 480p. Much better than watching this particular Progear superplay on superplay.uk site with the lower bitrate quality. ^_~

The video quality is superb since the actual VHS tape wasn't played very much. It would result in a better conversion job to DVD-R format if the recording is at the highest bitrate setting on the dedicated DVD recording machine (of course, that means finding out how long in duration the actual run is -- timewise). It's a given that each time the VHS tape is played, it degrades a bit further and can't be restored (unless you can source a brand new VHS tape superplay recording which is very unlikely in the first place). ^_~Ed Oscuro wrote:The video quality, or the actual run?PC Engine Fan X! wrote:I'd have to say that it is an impressive feat unto itself. Since Clover-TAC added an Omake Progear bonus video section after his 2-loop 1CC Progear session, I had to accomodate this into the DVD-R as well for completeness. The overall length of Clover-TAC's Progear superplay is at 1 hour, 9 minutes and 20 seconds with both the Superplay run + Omake bonus altogether.
Clover's final score is at 197,256,860pts. on his self produced VHS superplay. Makes you wonder just how long did it take him to master it on both loops -- is clocked in at 52 minutes and 23 seconds altogether for both loops from the beginning to the eventual conclusion at the high score intial entry screen. ^_~

Wow, that's an amazing score. I definitely want to keep pushing on this game and get better. I don't even really know what it is, but there's just something I love about this game. Having been playing Deathsmiles for the last few days, it was a breath of fresh air to come back to this game (and shoot in only one direction!) and I think that's what helped me finally crack the first loop.

It is indeed Ikeda's one and only game w/ an "every" feature by default. Apparently this had to be okay'ed by Capcom (actually... a lot of things did since they floated the bill). I never got around to getting the clear. Need to. Stage 5 kills me... I should bomb more.

That's the usual score for a 1st loop "survival" clear, maybe in the lower areas. Progear is a game where it really helps your scoring to watch superplays, you get to see all sorts of scoring opportunities that you may not have thought of before (for example, the cranes in stage 2 can be very good for your score if you apply them the right way). Also, don't ever bomb or die
