Blue Elf Multi-JAMMA. How does it run?

Post by Ex_Mosquito »

Im not sure if this is againest the rules or not, sorry if it is. Doesn anyone have any information on this?

http://excellentcom.net/detail.asp?cati ... 7&private=

It has an excellent selection of games, but im wondering is it running emulation(laggy controls) or is it running them via proper mvs/cps1/2 hardware? I'm thinking it's running some sort of pirated hardware rather than emulation considering it's only running MVS/CPS1/2 games.

Any idea's?

Thanks, Mark

Emulation seems much more likely to me, just on the basis of how small it is. If it were proper Neo/CPS hardware, it would most likely require a shit-ton of ROM chips and the associated traces. Also, it's probably much cheaper and easier to combine an ARM SoC with a customized port of something like FBA2x and chuck all the ROM images in a big NAND flash than it is to produce a proper clone.

edit: some Google-fu brought me to this brief review, which definitely sounds like an emulator system.

On the youtube of it, the camera zooms in for just a second on the progear ship's respawn aura, which flickers for a second, implying that there's a little bit of frame skip going on which would have a bad effect on any blinking sprites in the bigger games. Too bad, because the thing's so cheap and cps1, 2, and neo geo emulation are so good. I'd buy it in a second otherwise.
