sold?
At the risk of further inflammation of old wounds, is this six degrees of "super connections" rearing its head again? icyclams already did that with his million dollar videogame charity ;)

This might be worth a look, on several sites with the same exact text (also on wiki, so might be dismissed ;))

I picked out one particular bit of interest :
市場の予想を上回るネオジオの好調さに刺激されて発売されたようであるが、リリースされた対応ゲームソフトの少なさと高すぎる定価での販売、および前述の問題点2つが絡み合っての悪循環が起こった上に、当時次世代機と呼ばれたプレイステーションとセガサターンの登場により市場価値が著しく減少してしまい、出荷数も少ないまま早々にカプコンはこの商品の発売を中止した
basically, too few games, too expensive, value decreased because of Saturn and Playstation appearance.

Obviously a few more people (Japanese consumers?) in the same dream fantasy world as me huh?

JP Wiki has the info in one easy to find location. Also has info on pricing and a few other bits and bobs.

oh, and the last yahoo auction failed to meet the ask price, which was set at 30k, so - value under 30k?

Long live the JAPJAC thread.

More people have viewed this thread than who bought the original hardware. Fantastic work!

Truth be told, it is good that it has inflamed the community. Discussion is always good, and this IS an interesting piece of history/hardware.

I just hope the print article that this forms the basis of has the same effect.

is there any news on which publication/fanzine/other will be publishing the piece?

And countless more possible reasons as to why they made it if one is just willing to open ones ears and listen from the horses mouth. To question Capcom Japan`s hugely successful business ability as just a computer game player is a little bit silly and childish.
Without a Capcom interview I am not willing to be involved as it would be as pointless as the majority of this thread but in print. There is sadly already enough internet copy and paste jobs in game magazines in recent times. The last Edge PCE feature was an awful example of this.
seems weird - you seem to have conducted your own interview with Capcom and got your own details. Why not use those?
"Ah yes, that old thing, it was just a tax fiddle."

"Ah yes, we only made it to piss the chaps at SNK off. We could afford it, we were rolling in money thanks to Ken and co."

"Ah yes, we needed a way of using all our un-sold stock you know, it did it`s job."

"Ah yes, we polled our best most avid customers and those were the dozen titles they wanted, so we made it for them."
from the horses arse more like. what bullshit.
*I have offered to lend them
go on, for a laugh, tell us who "them" are? i'm sure it'll be top secret , but worth asking ;)

Thanks :D Yeah, I didn't mention that as it is pretty standard for arcade games to have difficulty adjustments (CPS-1 used dips, but nonetheless it was adjustable).

dcharlie-I haven`t conducted my own interview, I was just speculating, very much like you did earlier.
fine, well at least that's clear. The use of "from the horses mouth" suggests you gleaned something from source. It sounded awfully like you were trying to make it sound that way. And no, you do not count as the horses mouth. Though it baffles me why the more obvious reasons (the ones repeated again and again on numerous sites in both English and Japanese) that i posted are apparently unfounded factless nonsense, whilst tax dodges and doing things to piss snk off are apparently perfectly plausible in your mind.

It makes it look like you are trying to validate this as a success of some form for some reason - every reason you give puts a possitive spin on a machine that was, unfortunately, a failure.

Why pick me up on the word `them` and use speech marks? I don`t understand.
you said you offered to give them the machine to photograph, i assume "them" means the people doing the article (Edge or whoever) i was curious as to who the "them" actually were - i.e. which publication.

some random Japanese source wrote: 市場の予想を上回るネオジオの好調さに刺激されて発売されたようであるが、リリースされた対応ゲームソフトの少なさと高すぎる定価での販売、および前述の問題点2つが絡み合っての悪循環が起こった上に、当時次世代機と呼ばれたプレイステーションとセガサターンの登場により市場価値が著しく減少してしまい、出荷数も少ないまま早々にカプコンはこの商品の発売を中止した
If this is correct, then it was because the Neo-Geo did well and surpassed expectations (doesn't say what those expectations were - quality? sales?), so they released this in response.

Well, to be exact, I said, "at least one of these pops up for auction annually," as in "as few as but not limited to." But, yeah, they certainly aren't constantly up for bid. I'd be comfortable saying it comes up for auction semi-regularly :D

If it's not in the title screen, I'm going to assume it's not available. If you look at my group picture of the 7 CPSC carts, you'll see the options in the title screens on some of them.

hot prediction : "they" couldn't get an interview with capcom people in the know so it was cancelled. ;)

surely it's not a crime to let us know which publication we should be looking out for?

`ve already clearly stated my conditions for being involved. I`m sorry you don`t have any faith in English speaking game magazines. You could well be right, we`ll just have to wait and see how they get on. Thanks for the interest.
i have every belief in the english gaming press out here, i just question how much truth/wind up is going on here and, frankly, i suspect the whole "for print" and "a mate from capcom gave it for free" seem suspicious as you haven't provided any evidence backint these two claims up.

like i say, past form and all that. your record on "the truth" appears pretty spotted.

i've noticed liars always leave an out, so it seems weird that your are hesitant to name the mag, i don't expect you to. if you can't name the publication, then this does have the appearance of a fabrication.

I will give you until the morning to edit that or I will make a fool out of you.
will save ammo for later. i think i have good grounds.

good luck.

see? i left myself an out.

plus i will counter sue - loss of earnings, distress, etc. isn't litigation fun?
