Wanted: Someone to fix my candy cab

Post by hedorah »

O.K.

I am having continuing problems with my Atomiswave Candy Cab.

Whenever I hook up any Jamma Board, the 12volt fluctuates wildly. Reading the multimeter it seems to be jumping from around +3V to +12V. No matter how much I adjust the pot I cannot get the power to remain consistent.. with a Jamma board plugged in that is. However, with no board plugged in, it acts fine and I can adjust to 12 on the dot. But whenever a pcb gets plugged in... it starts going crazy. I tried a different wall outlet and even routing the it through a power conditioner. No luck.

I cannot for the life of me figure out what is going on. I do not think its the PSU because I had this exact problem previously, ordered a new PSU from Taito Tech, installed it, and still the same exact problem.

Video output is fine, but since the 12volt powers the sound, I get no consistent audio...it just skips constantly. Unhooking the Speakers does not fix it either.

Anybody have any ideas what can be causing the 12volt to be freaking out? Or anyone local to S.F. that I can pay to come fix it for me?

This is my first candy cab, and its quickly turning into what should have been a happy experience into a completely depressing one.

is it an actual taito PSU or a wei yah one? I dont know what else in the cabinet could be causing the irregularities in the PSU so I am still inclined to believe it is an issue with that.

Who did you buy the cabinet from and have you mentioned it to them?

It is another replacement wei ya. I know those psu's are known to be problematic, but a brand new one that is doing the 'exact' same thing? That is some serious bad luck on my part or something else going on.

Yes I did mention it to the seller, and he has been very communicative back to me. He claims it worked fine before transport and seems like a stand up guy. I don't want to make this into a personal matter on the boards because as of right now there is no reason to call foul play.

Ultimately, I like the cabinet, so I just want to isolate the problem and fix it. Whatever it is I am sure its repairable. I just wish I knew what was going wrong.

The cab supposedly originates Matsu, so I am in contact with Matsu now to see if he can track down someone that can repair it for me.

If you're running a JAMMA board in a JVS cab, I assume you have a JAMMA to JVS adapter in there? That might be contributing to your problem...

Maybe replace the PSU (you can wire a Happ PSU in there pretty easily). I'd check all the grounds, make sure they're nice and tight and not corroded.

I wouldn't mind taking a look (I'm in the city), but no guarantees that I can fix anything, lol.

I have a Naomi, so I could always bring that and we could bypass the JVS I/O converter entirely to see if the converter is the cause...

Good luck

Since the only measures of electricity in the cab are -5v, 5v and 12v, it seems rather odd that you should get any other readings.

Where are you taking the readings from? The harness?
