Kenta Cho shmup ships in 2D

Post by ZacharyB »

This is a project I've been devoting a little time to over the past two months.

Click the thumbnails for the full size--many are wide and would disrupt the forum formatting.

(If you're new to shmups and don't know who Kenta Cho is, the name of each game here also functions as a link to the game on his webpage. By all means, click the ones you fancy and download a few... they're free and very good. Mazer Mayhem requires the installation of the XNA studio package.)

Halfway through the project I started to record the animations. If you'd like, you can watch the following pictures draw themselves:

Tumiki Fighters
Mazer Mayhem
Parsec47
rRootage
Noiz2sa

As a very large fan of Kenta Cho, I approve of this.

In fact, I think it's incredible. :D Good work!

WOW! Good job; I like how you 'expanded' Noiz2sa & rRootage's ships without adding too much stuff.
Keep up the good work!

That Gunroar boat looks so badass. Great action shot with the waves.

He seems like a very humble and kind person, you might send him your fan art. Great art!
Some of the best shmups don't actually end in a vowel.
No, this game is not Space Invaders.

Truly beautiful and inspiring drawings!! I've seen crazy stuff at some Comiket as well. Japanese must be coming to this world with wires and mechanical part under the hood or something...

Thanks for everyone's compliments... maybe I can put the drawings together and shoot Mr. Cho an e-mail to let him know that his games are indeed loved.

He hasn't released a new one in a while. Perhaps we will see one of his works for sale on XBLA one day.
