How does Pink Sweets compare to Muchi Muchi Pork and Ibara?

Post by corbie »

I love Ibara and Muchi Muchi Pork, and I'm thinking about picking up Pink Sweets and wanted to know how it compares to those two games? Any information and opinions are appreciated.

I am currently playing PS. It is a fun game. If you are going for the 1cc, it is very difficult. If you like Ibara and rank control, you will probably enjoy PS.

PS is a lot different, and much harder than Ibara and MMP. Its not a game you can just pick up and play, its a game you have to spend lots of time figuring out. If you like extreme rank management and turn style defend/attack milking, then you will love PS. Personally I love it, but plasmo and I are the minority.

Don't buy Pink Sweets if one or more apply to you:

1)You don't have rapid fire on your B button
2)You aren't a very skilled player
3)You don't like practicing the same three levels over and over for dozens of hours (there are 7 stages in the game)
4)You don't like very repetitive, very long boss milking (on EVERY boss).
5)You don't like rank (this game has the harshest rank system of any game ever made)
6)You don't like the fact this game has a (very difficult-to-trigger) feature that lets you get infinite lives as early as stage 3, turning the rest of the game into a pure score attack, and to have any hope of competing with the scores of the pros or even clearing the game with a decent score, you have to utilize this feature.

That's my recommendation after playing this game for over 2 years, and 1CCing it with all four characters. I really enjoy this game, but keep in mind most people who play it end up hating it after awhile.

I just have to mention here that that sounds like pure hell to me. Especially numbers 3, 4 and 6. After reading your description I don't think I ever want to even play this game.

And on top of that you have to buy a PCB just to play it. Then get a supergun if you don't have one etc.

Hmmmm, well this is something to think about. Perhaps I'll stick with my plan to grab Espgaluda II and hold off on Pink Sweets, unless a really good deal on the bare pcb came along that I just couldn't pass up. :)

Thanks for the feedback and information.

One thing I forgot to mention is PS has a Score attack mode - it's just stage 6, with 5 min on the clock. You get an extra min with every 1mil you score. It's a very fun challenge, and some people who don't like the normal game have had a lot of fun with this.

Other positive features of PS include:
-great graphics and music
-great character designs and art
-very good enemy patterns in stages
-great bosses, and great boss bullet patterns (really some of the best in any Cave game)

Again, I am a big fan of this game. But I feel it necessary to inform people of what it really is (as stated in my previous post).

I'm kind of intrigued by your first post, EOJ. PS sounds like a very interesting shooter to have around. Do you know if it's a particularly hard PCB to track down?

No, it's not hard to track down. I have one for sale, if you're interested send me a PM.

Excellent, I might try to pick this up sometime. Unfortunately I can't afford it right now, but on the off chance you're still trying to sell it in a month or so I'll send that pm!

Pink Sweets is an excellent game.
Great music, some of the most beautiful bullet patterns ever, an awesome Score Attack mode, 7 great stages each with it's individual charme, etc.

The only problem with this game is, as EOJ has already pointed out:
EOJ wrote:Don't buy Pink Sweets if one or more apply to you:

If you don't have rapid B, expect a game close to Mushi Futari's Ultra mode in difficulty. It's really more like running against a wall than playing a videogame.

Score Attack on the other hand can be enjoyed without rapid B and is quite awesome imo.

i've been playing ps for 2 years now... i really love the game but i've totally given up the idea of ever finishing it. i can't even credit feed my way through the game. the later stages have me dead before i've even properly re-spawned. it is really, really hard! personally i regard as a seriously flawed game but despite that, whenever i play it, it makes me so happy.

espII is a fantastic game. i can highly recommend it. a lot of fun with a lot of originality & depth to it.

You don't think I'm serious, adversity?

- Irritating voices applied everywhere
- Secondary shot requires primary shot to be used afterwards or it'll deplete
- Dying set as a requirement for scoring
- 5 minute boss milking
- Most slowdown I have ever experienced in any CAVE game, period
- Game is only hard if you make it

I could continue, but I really don't want to. The game has strong points, but it's definitely one of CAVE's weaker titles.

The sounds FX truly are abysmal in MMP. You can't possibly think otherwise.

Could someone kindly explain what's so funny? I sunk a good 50 odd hours into MMP before coming to the conclusion that this relationship wasn't going to work. I have a bad habit of playing the hell out of games I don't like, then hating them. Pretty sure Pink Sweets would end up that way as well, if my hands ever touched it.

Outside of the voices and slowdown, the features you mentioned are typical raizing style game mechanics and loved by many. It just means you should stick to cave manic games.

I haven't put up with a game for equally as long and ended up hating it like I did with MMP. MMP's the only PCB I've regretted purchasing out of the other Cave titles I own. Just because I dislike the game doesn't mean I'm going to ignore the positive things I enjoyed about it. I'm not icycalm.

And yeah, Raizing really isn't my thing.

corbie already knows about MMP and Ibara (and he loves them!), he just wants to know how PS compares to them and you tell him:

Cave has yet to make a game like Raizing's Armed Police Batrider -- so much variety, it's like shopping at a candy store that choices being offered seem almost infinite. ^_~

Could Cave make a parody version of one of it's beloved IP shmup franchises (like how Konami did with it's Parodius series)? Would be a different spin on things indeed.

All these facets are what I loved most about MMP when I played it :D

My time with Pink Sweets has been limited. I had no idea what was going on. All I know, is that it has the best music of any shooting game ever, perhaps second only to its 'prequel', Recca.
