Undeadline
I've met 2 guys who are claiming to have finished Undeadline on the MEGA-DRIVE.
Can I just call them liars? Or did anyone here managed to do it too?

I've come close. If I was Undeadline's wife, it would be telling you right now that I'm fine and that I fell down the stairs.
It can be done. I just lost hope somewhere. It's still on my hit list. And it's an ever-shrinking list. Believe me, if I ever do it I'll come screaming about my accomplishment.
Come to think of it, Eightone (who I haven't seen in a while around here) used to allude to not thinking it was all that tough. Wish he was here to clarify.

I've beaten it using save states. I believe the final boss is totally impossible without using save states or other cheats, but the rest of the game is doable. I've actually gotten to the final stage without cheating... but I died at the midboss. Bleh. No chance of recovery if you do.
The ending sucks too, for what that's worth.

The MSX and X68K versions allowed you to take a pissload of damage before going down. As such, those revs really are quite sloppy. Methinks that when they ported it they wanted to streamline. As such, the levels are shorter, the bosses have changed, the damage system has been simplified, and the weapons have been powered up. It's like turning Gauntlet into a full-fledged shooter.
Oddly enough, the camera height changes between the versions. The closest to the ground is in the MD rev. Farthest away is the MSX. The MD rev is also the only one to feature the slot system of weapons. That is, there are only three types of treasure chests: Weapon, Item, 1up. The MSX and X68K revs have individual chests for each item and weapon. Oh yeah, the spread shot sucks in anything other than the MD rev.

PaCrappa is selling the game for $40 complete, which is a normal price for the game in Japan (goes around for $40-$50).

Undeadline exists as a PCE Hu-Card...WTF!?
There is also the rare PC Engine version of Undeadline that exists, I saw a Japanese ebay seller trying to sell one on eBay back in 2000 and it was presented as a PCE Hu-Card cartridge format. The seller went on to mention that this version of Undeadline was harder to find for the PC Engine console platform than the Mega Drive version. Unfortunately, I did not save a JPEG of that particular rare shmup auction...it was a pecuilar Hu-Card indeed. I'm not sure even if this particular Undeadline auction was completed and if so, then a very lucky PC Engine gamer has it in his or her gaming stash to this day. ^_~

Are you sure it wasn't a fake? A PCE version of the game existing is total news to me, and I consider myself quite clued up about PCE.PC Engine Fan X! wrote:There is also the rare PC Engine version of Undeadline that exists, I saw a Japanese ebay seller trying to sell one on eBay back in 2000 and it was presented as a PCE Hu-Card cartridge format. For CIT,
No, it wasn't a fake. I was shocked that such a PCE version of Undeadline was up for sale on eBay back in 2000. The seller had even posted two JPEGs of the outside instruction manual and the second one, the actual Undeadline game. I thought that it was interesting to be able to play Undeadline on the PCE platform. I didn't place a bid on it and wasn't sure if it ever got sold or not. A real PCE obscurity indeed... ^_~
I do recall that back in 2000, GameFan magazine did a "Graveyard" retro write up on the Japanese Mega Drive version of Undeadline. I still have that particular issue. ^_~

Is this game worth getting? I have elemental Master and really like that game.
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

I beat it... once.
I honestly don't know how I won, I just remember sitting there staring at the screen with a "I won?" look on my face. I've gotten to the final boss plenty of times, but he's SNK level cheap. I think it's partly just dumb luck as to whether or not you win.
This game's left many a boot print on my ass.

I did it. I did it. I did it. I did it. I did it. I did it. I did it. I did it. I did it. I did it. I did it. I did it. I did it. I did it. I did it. I did it. I did it. I did it.
Err...ahem...I did it. Actually not too difficult at all. The end boss is actually painfully easy as long as you look at his eyes.

there's a mega-drive online community that I participate, and after a long discussion about what is the hardest mega-drive game ever, and I said Undeadline a dozen of times, a guy came up and made a video showing him 1LC the game. I havent watched it, but people said its impressive.
And he also said the last boss is very easy. Thing is he uploaded the video to that "Tool assisted" site, which made me believe less in him. I suggested him to upload the video to Super Play, as it would be a better option, but I dunno if he did it.

If his name is biochemical, then he did. Very impressive video. He might have used save states, but I doubt it. His strategies are very good in any case. And, yes, he makes it look like the last boss was easy.Shatterhand wrote:there's a mega-drive online community that I participate, and after a long discussion about what is the hardest mega-drive game ever, and I said Undeadline a dozen of times, a guy came up and made a video showing him 1LC the game. Most likely that's the video that is up on Super-Play. As mentioned earlier, it's a movie made on an emulator, so it could be interpreted as suspect. However, it is by no means a superplay...character takes a lot of hits, many unnecessary, some boss strategies are suspect, and some scoring opportunities are passed up in favor of survival. I'm not ragging on the vid, since, if it's the same one you are talking about, it was put up as a demo. Good show of skills as well.
