Re: Taito Memories Gekan: Confirmed game list.
Wow I'm impressed, even though I already have PSX ports of Raystorm and G-Darius, I would be very happy if they now have fixed the framerate issues.
Can I hear a big 'FUCK YEAH!!!' ????
G-Darius (as pointed out above) could have the slowdown problem fixed, and Gekirindan could have all the minor issues with the saturn port resolved.

The list posted by Recap is for the second Japanese collection and the list above is the list for the European version of the Taito collection.yojo! wrote:I'm confused about which games are going to be in which vol. THe other Taito Memorie Collections list the following:

I bet your LCD does better scaling than your PS2, though. My roomy's DLP has to upscan everything that is not HD, and it does a pretty smoking job, in my opinion.visuatrox wrote:Well I don't think they would mess up the ports that bad.. Although these ports could be filtered highresolution, still if they fixed all the other issues I would still be happy (I will be playing these on a LCD TV anyway, so no matter what I'm going to end up with some kind of scaling/filtering)
So, who ever decided that any classic needed filtering in order to sell it? I play classic games on my TV, all the time, and I'm more annoyed by filtering than "blocky" graphics. Upscan that crap and SELL IT!!!

Would you mind telling me exactly what you found wrong with the Megaman Anniversary Collection (besides the switched controls in the GCN version. That doesn't count as a major flaw IMO) or the other collections? Seriously, you have bashed practically every multigame collection with more than 5 games in it and it would be nice if you gave us more specifics on what exactly you found wrong with some of them.Nemo wrote:EXACTLY. Anyone that seriously belives Taito is going to roll out the red carpet for each game on a 25-game compilation is smoking something ill. I'd be flat-out shocked if the verts even have TATE.Bar81 wrote:OR they could be even shittier than the ports you're complaining about.
Honestly, from what I heard, only a handful of the games in the PS2 Midway Arcade Treasures collections were poorly emulated, though some statments I heard here say all the games are sped up instead of one or two like the comments elseware suggest (The GCN ones don't have the speed problem). So which is it?
Also, I would like to hear some other opinions on some of these collections. So far, I only heard one or two people that say the collections suck. Do they really suck or are they just collections with 1 or 2 imperfect games? Or does one poor game spoil the whole bunch for you?
Most of the big collections I've played are fine. The Midway Arcade Treasures collections are fantastic, and even with slight glitches here and there (Primal Rage's finishing move timing, slight sound sync issues in Smash TV on the GC) they're still the best home versions of their respective games by a fair margin.

Well, I certainly won't be missing much by getting an XBOX! (The collection's not getting an XBOX release)
Honestly Taito-NO Super Space Invaders '91, and Rastan Saga II instead of the original?? Are you fukaying KIDDING me?!
Ok, I'll admit that this is a better game list then Namco's 50th Anniversary Collection, but not by much, and we still don't know what the 2 unlockables in that collection will be.

Overall I agree that the Midway Collections are great, but Smash TV on the PS2 has some SERIOUS slowdown. People can bitch about the PS2's specs all they want, but that was pure laziness on Midway's part. ANY 4, 8, 16, 32, or 64 Bit game should run flawlessly on ANY 128-bit system.sethsez wrote:Most of the big collections I've played are fine. And Midway screwed up the controls so bad on some of the games-Spy Hunter, in particular-as to make them practically unplayable.

Usually people don't even know what a true low res display is and just very few will let you know that a port lacks it.BrianC wrote: So far, I only heard one or two people that say the collections suck.
They don't need to upscan anything, just use the true low res modes of the PS2.So, who ever decided that any classic needed filtering in order to sell it? I play classic games on my TV, all the time, and I'm more annoyed by filtering than "blocky" graphics. Upscan that crap and SELL IT!!!
Well, at least on the GCN version, the controls for Spy Hunter can be changed to be more like the NES version. I think it involves setting the left analog for both accelrating and turning off the gear switching ability or something along those lines. I have to check next time I play it.dave4shmups wrote:Overall I agree that the Midway Collections are great, but Smash TV on the PS2 has some SERIOUS slowdown. Aside from Gigawing Generations, did any Taito PS2 port turn out worse than expected?
The Mega Man Anniversary collection was acceptable due to the remixed tracks of the PS2 version, but the actual games still weren't even on par with the originals due to a weird blur effect on the graphics and some slowdown. Which is my beef with compilations, I've never played one where the games were as good as the originals, much less improved. Most of these were Nes games mind you, and they couldn't even get them 100% accurate. Compilations by nature are cash grabs so to expect royal treatment is wishful thinking, all you ever really get is a bunch of roms on a disc. Now if they are offering some great, elusive games I might grin and bear it as long as the emulation wasn't horrendous, but if already own or can get the original, better versions of these games for a couple bucks I'd much rather play them even if it's less convenient and more expensive in the long run.BrianC wrote:Would you mind telling me exactly what you found wrong with the Megaman Anniversary Collection (besides the switched controls in the GCN version. That would be nice, but Gamefaqs has listed just about every upcoming game for all consoles, and I don't see the Taito Collection listed for the XBOX.jp wrote:dave4shmups wrote:Well, I certainly won't be missing much by getting an XBOX! (The collection's not getting an XBOX release)
Last I heard it was... both of them even.
EDIT-Ok, now I'm really confused-IGN's XBOX site lists the Taito Collection as coming out on all 3 consoles, but on Gamefaqs, it isn't listed as coming out on the XBOX.

Whatever, when this does arrive at US shores, I sure as hell hope the game list is better then the one listed in the first post on this thread, and that we see the original Rastan, and some Arkanoid action!

It was my understanding it was Xbox/PS2/PC.

I think you're right JP; I trust IGN's release dates more then I do those at Gamefaqs.jp wrote:dave4shmups wrote:That would be nice, but Gamefaqs has listed just about every upcoming game for all consoles, and I don't see the Taito Collection listed for the XBOX.jp wrote:

At any rate, I think it would be pretty safe to assume that the European game list will remain more or less the same over here-of course I could be wrong. But I don't understand why Taito doesn't do two volumes over here and in Europe-they have one of the largest, if not THE largest, back catalogues of arcade games-certainly more then Midway, and Midway's working on their 3rd volume!
Oh well, now we just need to figure out what the heck is going on, or not going on with the ever-elusive SNK Classics Collection. I've asked about it on SNK-PLAYMORE's USA site's forums and gotten no info at all.

You know, you guys are all full of piss and vinegar. If G-Darius comes out arcade perfect, your gonna be joining me in prayer that we can finally play what is already a freaking fantastic game, but without the slowdown. I can't imagine they would merely emulate the PSX port (w/ slowdown), and the arcade version of G-Darius isn't mamable to my knowledge.
In fact, I suspect if there was a great port of G-Darius there would be a freakin' revival of the titles and it would be up there on people's top horizontal shmup list (where it belongs anyway).
The rest of this is just pointless cynicism and bickering. Any comp featuring featuring Gekirindan, Gun Frontier, G-Darius and Layer Section is AMAZING news.

Eugenics: you know it's right!
I was going to list my need for Samurai Shodown 1&2 on a pack, but the truth is, there are so many SNK titles that are GREAT and need release on a modern console that even one that failed to contain these two games could still be a godsend!dave4shmups wrote: Oh well, now we just need to figure out what the heck is going on, or not going on with the ever-elusive SNK Classics Collection. For others, I am excited to see Layer Section finally getting a rerelease so that current gen owners can experience the best shmup ever created imo. One can only hope for TATE as Yoko just isn't right.
