Yes, I really did...

The red button version was mk1. This proved uncomfortable and unreliable as the 15 year old cheap buttons broke. Mk2 has brand new very expensive buttons, and is much more effective. The buttons are wired to the same circuit as white/black on the top, which also remain operative. Version 2 actually fits inside the pad better too, without having to bend the switch legs.
This all happened because I wanted to switch to manual gearbox on MC3....

really friggin nice. i wish i could do something like that. i really like the controller s but it still violates some simple rules by not making all buttons instantly accessible.

I have no sig whatsoever.
There's one very specific application. Think of any game that uses both analogue sticks - thats all FPS and a few racing games. Now you're using those thumbsticks, you have 4 buttons left - two are best for occasional use - the clicking of those sticks. Aside from that it's just a pair of triggers. MC3, when in manual shift, needs (in addition to accel/brake and steering) - shift up, shift down, nitro, power up, handbrake and weight shift. That's 6 required buttons, and the nature of the game means you never ever want to have to let go of the thumbsticks.Damocles wrote:I can't think of any practical application for the hack....but since it's a genuinely original hack, I salute you.

that´s a cool mod, if I´ll get an Xbox again, I´ll remember to do that, too. Since you posted that replay vid a while ago, I´m pretty interested in playing MC3. For now I got an N64 because I wanted a cartridge based system, but I have to admit it´s pretty shocking to play games with such a bad frame rate and resolution, but especially with the worn out controller that came with it. Aware of the problem, I got a racing wheel as well as an arcade stick in preparation, but both suck just as well. Seeing that Xbox controller again and remembering how great it felt to play racing games with it made me doubt my decision...
