9,637,080 - Cowboy-NOA - Stage 7 - Black Zeppelin

Eventhough he's one of the lowest scoring ships in the whole game, I quite like him.

I don't know what C-Type is called in particular. I am really, really terrible at stage 6.

Tiny improvement. Didn't record though, I get too impatient on that damn rom check ;-(

This was my first time performing the BH Mk II "Vulcan Sweep" correctly, and I maintained my medal chain through all but the very end of Stage 6. Flamingo score was rubbish though... I could have made a D score if I was a little luckier on them.

The flamingoes can really be a run breaker. On my best attempt I got nearly 2,9mill without the suicide trick! With the exact same strategy I sometimes only get 2,1mill. If I get under 2,3mill there I usually restart. :?

The things that will disqualify a score are Red Ball and Stage Edit, as well as scores submitted for the other versions of the game (like the China revision).

I'm a little confused. I'm using bgaregga (Europe / USA / Japan / Asia), and the defaults don't match your requirements above (whether or not i set the territory dipswitch to Japan). The default is extends = none, and the only other extends option is every 2mil, not 1mil. Am i using the wrong set - which of these is the right one, or how do i get extends@1mil?:

Code: Select all

bgaregga Battle Garegga (Europe / USA / Japan / Asia) (Feb 3 1996) .037b09
bgareghk Battle Garegga (Austria / Hong Kong) (Feb 3 1996) .079u1
bgaregnv Battle Garegga - New Version (Austria / Hong Kong) (Mar 2 1996) .068
bgaregt2 Battle Garegga - Type 2 (Europe / USA / Japan / Asia) (Mar 2 1996) .117u1

The first romset in that list is the correct one. You have to set the dipswitches to Japan too.

Hmm, compressed video is 1.2GB, and it's not very good quality. I have a very fast system, and fraps records usually at the rate I set it for (30 fps), but every 15 seconds or so it drops to around 25 fps for a millisecond, enough to stutter the sound and just be annoying.

I don't want people to have to download something that big, for a stuttering video. Anyone have any tips on getting a buttery smooth recording?

Here's the mame input file for those interested:

Proof that white guys can clear Garegga too!

Much respect. Balls of steel picking up all those medals after you dropped your chain. :o Tense late stage 6 but you mopped up stage 7, Black Heart mk2 was a thing of beauty.

I'd capture it but I'm sure my comp is a lot worse than yours. Fraps is just really wacky like that, getting it to work well is a black art. If your comp is good enough, try Camtasia if you can't get Fraps to work right. Your final vid ought to be way under 1.2 GB. Use x264 for best quality/filesize ratio, remember to compress your audio, and lower the quality slider a bit if you have to.

Thought I'd drop this score in here, got it a little while back
drboom - 4,102,930 - stage 4 - Gain (A)

I'm still struggling to pick a ship I feel comfortable with. I may just got with Golden Bat and see what I can do as its the ship most seem to choose to 1CC this - which is probably where I should start before I worry about crazy high scores.

I usually use Golden Bat as I can (as well as most mortal players) score best with it.

and I have an improvement:

Sonic R - 5,655,310 - Stage 6 - Golden Bat

A bit of a preparation for Raizing week of STGT'09…

5,438,220 - moozooh - 6 - Golden Bat

Honestly, Black Heart battle is half as hard as one minute of survival on stage 6. Guess I should rather concentrate on scoring and survival in the first five stages. Batrider's stage 6 seemed easier as well.

Yep, the difficulty in garegga is quite strange. I'd say it peaks at the part after the 4th "Giant Turret" up until the boss start. That sequence is evil and you can't bomb through it if you want a chance at surviving BH Mk II. Stage 6 requires a different style of movement than the rest of the game due to all the random little bullets, similar to the sideways "weaving" you have to perform in Raiden/Raiden II.

Best chance for survival in my opinion is to get the homing options (miss 5 bomb bullets, then grab an option). There's only two really safe places to do this; first is on stage 5, at the nozzle of the giant plane that houses BH Mk I. Second is a bit nastier, but doable, after the "turret wall" at the beginning of stage 6 are 6 unmanned tanks, just collect one of their bomb bullets and annihilate anything that bothers you with a full bomb. If you're careful you can collect two additional full bomb bullets (which won't impact the 5 bullet count for the homing option), and usually the orange tanks right there will yield an option which will be your savior for the rest of stage 6. Though for the boss, you may want to use default options depending on your ship.

Rando, you didn't update bkk's score in the overall ten, missed Sonic R's latest one, and I'm listed twice on Wild Snail board. Maybe you should truncate it to some sane length, like 30 entries.

Thanks for the spotted errors, everything should be up. C'mon guys, just a couple more shots and we have an alpha-decimal top ten!
