Well, I would consider it an underrated game if it didn't sell well in the States and when people play Super Smash Bros, they go "Who the fuck is Ness?"

It's also a bit of a cult classic. Isn't cult classics supposed to be underrated stuff?

Underrated when it was released? Perhaps. Underrated now? No way. I would say it's definitely exceeded cult status.

Well, I guess you can blame Super Smash Bros for that. Everyone was wondering where Ness was from so they checked out Earthbound.

If nothing else, the game commands a steep price on eBay these days, from what I've seen...sometimes higher than even FF3, Secret of Mana, etc...

I paid $50 just for a cart that comes with a dust cover. So if nothing else the game held it's value pretty well. Earthbound is probably the Radiant Silvergun of RPGs.

BTW, Earthbound isn't all that rare. It's a game that sells for higher because of popularity like Chrono Trigger. IMO, Bugs Bunny Rabbit Rampage is very underrated. It's a very fun game that captures the charm of the original cartoons with smart enemies that actually block attacks.

Off the top of my head that honor would probably go to Panzer Dragoon Saga...regularly goes for 100 bucks and up. There might be other imported stuff that might go for more though (the Shining Force III premium disc goes for over 100).

So what makes Radiant Silvergun sell for so damn much? It's a rare import?

Sega might have saved the Saturn in the States and give Sony a run for their money if they released it over here!!

IIRC its run was 50,000 copies...not as rare as a lot of other games, though I'm not sure how much of a print run that is in "the big picture." In any case it's not hard to find; there are almost always a few copies on eBay. Most of the overpricing, to the best of my knowledge, comes from hype, and how it's supposed to be the best shooter ever.

Earthbound is not underrated. It was pretty popular when it came out and through good word of mouth has risen to be one of the more popular SNES RPGs. I doubt anyone gave a crap about Ness in SSBM enough to go buy a SNES and play some longass RPG.

And people listing things like Mega Man (Rockman too!), Donkey Kong Country and big name RPGs need to reread the topic. Underrated. I suppose most titles on my short list will be more obscure than 'underrated' per se, but what could be more underrated than what most don't know or care about? Whee!

SFC:
Magical Pop'n
The Violinist of Hamelin
Do Re Mi Fantasy
Holy Umbrella
Kunio Tachi no Banka
SD The Great Battle
The Great Battle 3, 4 & 5
SD Gundam: V Sakusen Shidou
Gegege no Kitaro
Magical Taru Ruto-kun
Super Ninja-kun
Pac in Time
Go Go Ackman 1-3
Xandra's Adventure
Libble Rabble
Battle Dodgeball 1&2
Battle Soccer 1&2
Joe and Mac 2
Zig Zag Cat
Nankoku Shounen Papuwa-kun
Sutte Hakkun

SNES:
Cacoma Knight in Bizyland
Smartball
SOS
Kid Clown in Crazy Chase
Plok
Tin Star
Wario's Woods

Why are Pac in Time and Joe & Mac 2 under SFC? They came out in the US. They are definatly underrated games, though.

Because I have them on SFC I guess. I never really thought about whether they had US releases. Okay, I just now visited Gamefaqs and it says that Pac in Time was JP only. Either way, it's totally awesome with the grappling hook and all that. People who like 2D swingers (Bionic Commando grappling hook games) should really give this one a whirl. It's totally dirt cheap.

Gamefaqs still has some entries wrong. Maru's Mission and the GB Jajamaru game that it's a localization of stiff have seperate entries. They even have some games listed for US release that never came out in the US. Yeah, either way, I think I should try and get Pac-in-time. Both the US and JP ones are dirt cheap. I rented Joe and Mac 2 once. The game is just flat out awesome. I love how you can get Joe or Mac married in the game.

Ah yes. A quick cross reference on ebay shows that PiT definitely came out in the states. Everyone should buy one!

Awesome music, too. Specially Stages 9.1 and 13.

My favorite licensed game: Konami's "Tiny Toon Adventures: Buster loose." A great platformer with many unique levels.

Good luck finding it.

Twisted Tales of Spike McFang was really fun when it came out, but I haven't played it again since then. My memory tells me it's still fun. It's not expensive, but it is pretty hard to find... I found a copy a while ago but it still hasn't made it into my system.

Pocky and Rocky 1&2 are both fantastic. I love em. When I started buying SNES games again those were among my first re-acquisitions.

Super Bonk 1 is excellent. Super Bonk 2 (no US release) has really weird control, so don't be taken in by the name alone.

How about Cameltry? I love that game! Marble maze games are fun~

Also, while it's not "underrated," if you like Prince of Persia, the SNES one is the best version of all IMHO. Probably has something to do with the fact that Konami made it. It's under-recognized in a way, as most people don't realize how different the various versions of that game are.

About Pac in Time: Do you know if Pac in Time for the SFC is different from the PC version? Yeah, I know this is a long shot... but it was released for the PC in English, and that's where I played it. Yeah, it kicks ass.

I have no idea about that. I've only seen my SFC one in real life and pictures of the PC and SNES ones on ePay.

Cameltry definitely rules.

Yes Prince of Persia for the SNES was awesome.
Another fine example of how good an old game can be when Konami makes them.

I don't know much about the PC version, but the GB b/w version of Pac-in-Time is different from the SNES version, but still very good in its own right, from what I tried. BTW, the SNES and SFC versions are the same.

No, that would be Puyo Puyo. Tetris Attack is ridiculously good, though.

I think the Tetris name actually detracts from it... before I played it, I thought it would just be like Tetris but with some gimmicky twist thrown in so Nintendo could milk the Tetris brand name. Of course, it's so much more than that (and not like Tetris at all, for those who haven't played it).

I think it was originally called "Panel de Pon" or something like that in Japan, completely unrelated to Tetris (or Yoshi, for that matter)...sort of like Puyo Puyo became Kirby's Avalanche and Robotnik's Bean Machine when it came here.

You're right, just as it was re-released as Pokemon Puzzle League. At least with Kirby's Avalanche and Mean Bean Machine they didn't try to associate it with a completely different game just because it's the most well-known in the genre. It would be like if Psikyo brought Zero Gunner 2 to the US under the name Gradius X-treme.

Granted, I'm sure the American public would gravitate more towards Tetris Attack than they would towards Panel de Pon, but it's misleading regardless.
