Is it just me or are there a lot of French retro game sites?

I've meant to bring this up a few times, but I always forget about it when I'm on the site. Anyways... yeah, there seem to be a whole lot of French retro gaming web pages. (Shmup.com is a noteworthy one :D ) Lots of good emulation sites are in French too, and Magic Engine is written by a French guy, David Michel. (Best PCE emulator BY FAR.)

Is there a big retro game scene (well, relatively) in France or something? Or do there just happen to be a lot of talented French web designers that like retro games?

Last random thought: It all makes me wish I paid more attention in my French classes in middle & high school. I took like 4 years (almost 5) of French and I don't remember much... wah, I could be trilingual if only I didn't forget it...

Well France was one of the few if not the only European countries where the PC-Engine was released. It was the Japanese PCE & Duo modifidied to work on the early 90's PAL TVs, not that cheap ugly looking US TurboGrafX-16 compared to the small JPN PCE.
