Ketsui the most overrated game this decade…

I played Extra mode on Death Label, a graphically toned-down version of the final stage. OMG, the enemy arrangements/ game speed/ aspect ratio/ amount of starting lives/ sound quality/ etc. were somewhat different, IT'S AN ENTIRELY DIFFERENT GAME AND PLAYS NOTHING LIKE KETSUI.jonny5 wrote:you havent played the game.....keep your unfounded opinions to yourself....

You just suggested that all elitists, including those with their heads up their asses (see: ketsuicirclejerk.com forums) are "people with brains".Jockel wrote:fixedZweihander wrote:Well, you keep telling me I should play the full game first, when I don't have the means to do so. I laugh at the very suggestion of this.

Jesus... the fanboys on these forums make me roll my eyes back so far it hurts.

Ketsui is serious business.
Four pages of interesting debate over an extremely interesting matter. It's not like this thread could've been 1 sentence/post in the Ketsui 360 thread or a signature for OP. I guess this was all about some more attention whoring and "I'm not good enough" stuff again. Thrilling, keep it up.
Ketsui is overrated because it's overrated... wow

look you can say: "from my experience with demo label [...]"; or someone else could say "i've watched a lot of ketsui replays and [...]". just appreciate that other people are more familiar with the game (stans as well as non stans) and they're opinions hold more validity with the rest of us. i know DEL, TWE, Icarus, GaijinPunch, and others who have played it extensively and don't worship the sacred cow either. but i value what they say because they can demonstrate that they know their shit.
i'm not trying to be rude here. i'd appreciate the same attitude in return

and honestly judging a PCB title based on a port on a fucking handheld is beyond foolish
im not saying you dont know stuff because you wont ever own it.....i was making a point about why you are so up in arms about a game that really is off your radar
as for the last part there...well what can i say....people know good when they play it.....
what you perceive as hype is actually how most people regard the game....especially those who have played it

Ketsui stans have strong solidarity thats for sure…

Been playing Ketsui at most every shmupmeet I attended, and I personally think Ketsui deserves all the hype it gets... it's a very slick game and one of the most exciting shmups to watch skill runs of. Other people might be let down, and too much hype is never a good thing. But you can't deny it's something special, and if not special, unique. No stage long chains, just get up in their faces and suck up the high value cubes. It's a rush and I'm glad Cave decided to take that route.
Sonic R was in Chicago at the same meet I was, we had Ketsui on one of those cabs! I would hope you've spent a lot of time with it? I would think to play it is to know that it's among the best, unless you really just don't like Cave, but I know Sonic R does. I didn't know you felt that way or I would have tried to spend a little more time convincing you.

although i am actually concerned for SonicR...its painfully obvious that he has some major emotional problems and is a manic depressive.....
it makes me sad every time he makes some self-deprecating post

poor guy
Having had the oppertunity to hang out with SonicR IRL a few times, I really don't think that's the case, he is an extremely calm, well spoken, and inviting person and is generally an awesome host for Michigan events. I think he just has Very Strong convictions about things relating to shmups and those often go against the grain here, but what the hell, it takes all kinds and at the end of the day it's about getting together and playing some shmups no matter which you like or dislike.jonny5 wrote: although i am actually concerned for SonicR...its painfully obvious that he has some major emotional problems and is a manic depressive.....

Even if I am a Cave Stan....lol.
I still don't get why someone could feel bothered enough to start such a deep and intriguing discussion about that some people like something that this person does like as much as they do.
This 4-page fight really consists of nothing but "YEAH, it's a VERY GOOD game, but what I WANNA SAY is that it is NOT SO VERY GOOD as YOU say", right? OMG
But entertaining
, although Sonic R's seriousness about this subject makes me wonder.

My actual opinion is that Ketsui is overrated, but atm I feel more like saying that Ketsui sucks and is one of Cave's worst shooters.
Ikaruga on the other hand is art. My life has changed drastically since I've played the game for the first time.

I think Ketsui is overrated, but only because it doesn't give you a handjob every 10 million points or pump you full of heroin between stages, which is about the only way any game could live up to that kind of hype. From the limited number of times I've played it, though, it does seem like an exceptionally good game. Even if the port is sub-par I bet I'll have a lot of fun with it.
Having said that, it's easy to misjudge other people's tone online. Saying "Ketsui is the best shmup ever!" might sound like a pretty bold statement. If you qualify that by adding "but Garegga, Silvergun, and DDP are almost as good" (or whatever your favorite shmups happen to be), it doesn't sound as gushy. It could just be that a lot of people think Ketsui is marginally better than their other favorite shmups, which really doesn't sound too unreasonable. But depending on your writing style, you might come off sounding way different than you intended.

Seconded. Sonic has always been really laid back and courteous every time I've come up for the Michigan meets. I'm not sure why he gets so worked up about stuff on the board.mrtie wrote:Having had the oppertunity to hang out with SonicR IRL a few times, I really don't think that's the case, he is an extremely calm, well spoken, and inviting person and is generally an awesome host for Michigan events. 1) Not understand how the games industry works?

If those assholes at NASA would make a consumer grade space shuttle I could finally buy one for an affordable price, fly it, review it and say that it handles like shit and going to the moon is overrated.Well, you keep telling me I should play the full game first, when I don't have the means to do so.
<switches gears>
Look at how long Ketsui boards have been selling for $800-$900. Buy one, play it, THEN argue, then sell it for about the same cost. Until then, nobody cares...especially Cave & 5pb.
EDIT
...or anyone else.

You guys just don't understand. Ketsui isn't just a game, it's a way of life. Ketsui isn't just the best game Cave's ever made, it's the best game ever made period. More than that, it's the most important development in all of human history. Yes, Ketsui is the crown jewel in the achievements of mankind. I'd even wager to say nothing will ever surpass it.
Even after the Earth has been burnt away by the expanding sun, billions of years after the heat death of the universe, those Ketsui PCBs will still be there, floating in the endless void of space for all eternity. Pure perfection in physical form, just waiting for sentinent beings from an alternate dimension to discover them, and be raptured into pure gaming bliss! .. UHNN!
Excuse me, I have to take care of something.
