Gamedaily.com tries (IMO quite unsuccessfully) to list the 25 hardest videogames of all time, including a number of shooters:

#5 Ikaruga("You'll need to acquire power-ups" )

#6 R-Type ("leads the pack of nearly impossible shooters")

#9 Defender ("Not only must you blast these creatures into oblivion, but you also have to rescue falling civilians")

#13 Mushihimesama Futari ("Cave's Japan-only shooter is one you've probably never seen" )

I dunno, I think 1ccing Ikaruga would be harder than 1ccing Futari. Chances are nobody at gamedaily has even played Futari though.

Depends on the version and mode of Futari we're talking about, and whether you're playing tee-ball or home run derby.

Elixer: I doubt we're talking Original here, since other games seem to have their hardest difficulty implied (or stated). That and it references youtube videos, and I don't recall there being any Futari Original videos on youtube.

in summary, mega man 9 is at 4 and Ninja Gaiden beat Ghosts n' Goblins and I'm thinking of setting up a filter to block game daily

Mushi2's TLB movie has been quite popular on youtube, especially when dubbed "hardest boss ever". Many have seen it, even shmup heretics, and probably a couple of chaps at gamedaily.
So there, it's probably enough for them to list it and get over with it.
And maybe make it as smart people who know cool games?

There's a handful. It wouldn't be fair unless they compared all games with the normal settings. If they actually did base Futari entirely around the TLB vid, well, that's just stupid.

They gave other games (Doom, DMC3, etc) nods for their highest difficulty settings, assuming the same for Futari is logical.

Regardless, for as bad as the list is, the comments are worse. "What about Silent Hill 1?"

The reason gaming sites make these lists is so they can get traffic to their sites via posts like this one, justifying advertiser dollars.

The "hardest difficulty setting" paraphernalia doesn't help either. OF COURSE they're hard on hardest, duh. Can you really tell if god of war at hardest is harder than doom2 at nightmare? Pleeze.
They should make a list of hard games based on their normal difficulty settings, if ever.
This way you can understand the level of skill a software house expect from the average target of their games.

I think they decided these titles by a roulette. DMC3 and God of War are piss easy. The first DMC was harder than DMC3.
