Surprisingly good Akihabara article

Post by Cthulhu »

News articles about Akihabara seem to be popping up all over the place these days. Most of them are error-ridden and obvously written by someone not familiar with the topic material, but this one is actually pretty good.

It's not perfect, but compared to a lot of the others, it's really good.

Wow, is that the real Aki we all think we know and love?

A bunch of people forming a collective cult of non sociable outcasts.

Maybe a good report, but that has definately changed my perception of the place.

Anyone consider themselves a "shut in"?

:shock:
This industry has become 2 dimensional as it transcended into a 3D world.

The people who frequent Akiba are geeks. Geeks tend to be a little less social than non-geeks. Whether you're a shut-in or not varies of course... but we don't exactly conform to "normal" social standards. :wink:

Thanks Cthulu. I think this represents the extreme of Akihabara. That's like doing an article on clubbing, focusing on a patron that does a gram of coke, a few E's, and then gets involved in an orgy in the bathroom. These people exist, but are not the norm.

BTW -- any chance you can take some pics before you leave town? I want to update the Akihabara Flash Map.

The article

The article seems to be an exercise in how many times the words Geek and Nerd can be fitted into a paragraph. I'm glad that it mainly fixes on manga and anime, making only one brief reference to video game arcades.
I like this line;
"That, along with the child pornography aspect of some adult manga, has led to allegations that some nerds are pedophiles."
