Which R-Type explosions look better?

Post by Xonatron »

R-Type I: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GFxuI7cBFhQ#t=2m31s (stage 1 boss; ignore that boss breaks apart...)
R-Type I: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GFxuI7cBFhQ#t=6m31s (stage 2 boss; ...because they all don't)
R-Type II: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UGHGnUoDy7I#t=2m35s (stage 1 boss)

Vote and explain why...

EDIT: Please don't sway your vote to R-Type I because the boss breaks apart. I think 3 votes on R-Type I were chosen for this. This poll is about the sprite explosions specifically, not boss deaths. I'm sorry I wasn't more specific.

R-Type II. The first seems a bit "sluggish."

I, because the boss at least breaks appart. In II, there are explosions and the boss just dissappears.

I prefer 1, it's less obvious that there's only one or two explosion animations being used over and over.

II, because they look cooler.
and it's not like I'm biased towards II...
Come check out my website, I guess. Random stuff I've worked on over the last two decades.

This, to the word.

I like 1 better, the colors have more variation. As well, the fade-to-black in 2 is somewhat anti-climactic in comparison.

Damn, that's two potentially wrong votes. It was (supposed to be) a poll about the sprite animation explosions specifically, not the boss death as a whole. I should have been more clear. :( For example, the poll results should be the same had I shown you R-Type I's stage 3 boss that doesn't break apart:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GFxuI7cBFhQ#t=6m31s

By the way, the R-Type II stage 1 boss does break apart, too:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UGHGnUoDy7I#t=2m35s
But, nevermind, I see what you mean that they body of the boss breaks apart in R-Type I stage 1.

I like the explosions in 1 better. I like the mix of big and little explosions.

1, since 2 just has effects on top of the boss before it vanishes.

As opposed to the boss breaking apart you mean? Read my previous post... I think I ruined the point of this survey by not being more clear. :(
