Out of curiosity, what ship combination are you using for this? Lock-on makes the first few levels easier, but I'm not sure how good it is in the later levels. Same goes for slow ship speed.

Lock does make the bosses easier (good damage on them and no faffing about with charges or deploying bombs), but I've found it's a touch unpredictable in what part of the boss it's going to lock on due to its wild movements. When I played it, I ended up getting pissed off with losing bombs and lives on the stage 4 boss (and knew what was coming with the stage 5 boss) and practiced lock for a bit, but it didn't really make the game any easier.

Neon, if you're going for an easy clear of the game, you only want to be hitting the core of the bosses, as milking their parts will result in much more difficult attacks being thrown at you. The stage 4 boss in particular is very good for milking, but will be much, much harder than when simply taking out its core quickly. Also, lock is completely useless during stages unfortunately. Bomb is probably the best weapon to choose for scoring (needs a ton of practice however), but Roll is more intuitive and it's better against bosses.

I'd only bother with ship speeds 3 and 4 TBH, I think some later patterns and enemy formations in the game would be very hard to deal with on slower speeds. Speed 3 is obviously better when dodging boss attacks and for some intricate dodging during stages, but speed 4 scores better and thus is better for quickly mopping up and getting position to kill waves as they come on screen. I'd say it comes down to personal preference between the two if you just want to clear the thing.

QFT.

I suck at it though. It's the hardest of Cave's older shmups [excluding ESPRade, which has a freak hitbox which tends to get you killed].

Thanks again freddiebamboo. I'm using B-roll-3. I guess speed 4 might be necessary for the later stages though. I've worked it out to where I can beat the first three stages without dying but it uses all my bombs.

I'm having fun with it so far but it's been a long time since I played shmups so my opinion isn't really well informed. It is constantly intense and I like the goofy/humorous theme. I can understand not liking it though as the difficulty level really is over the top

Bah, it's not as hard as all that. Look at all that empty space that's everywhere; aside from the BS regenerating turrets your worst enemy are those disco men who want you to fly into a bullet.

Roll is definitely the highest damage you can put out - hold it for a moment, about 2 seconds, until all the orbs are out and it's ridiculous. Dismantling Boss 4 before he gets speedy isn't that difficult at all with it.

Sigh, the months I spent on this thing. Clearing any given level isn't hard, even level 5; it's just doing it all in a row without getting smashed in the face with bad luck.

BTW, I figured out lock on and bosses: right before the start of the boss, start locking on while being in the middle of the screen, and DON'T LET GO. AFAIK, this works on the first 2 bosses [makes the first boss amazingly easy], haven't gotten to the 3rd [I never bothered w/ continuing].

Also, ship speed 1 and 2 suck.

As far as I can tell, Lock-on is weaker than a normal shot, when the entire shot makes a connection.

The only use I could come up with it is for the A type ship for sweeping, and perhaps even then only at lower speeds. In other words, just as a challenge.

I feel the same. I use a technique to practice where I start a game from the beginning and use a credit!

That said - I'm absolutely fuckin' awful - maybe I should think about save states!

Yeah I agree, I know a lot of people use savestates in emu's to practice a certain part, but I think its pretty lame, you should start from the beginning and practice that way, inefficient, but fair.

Quite - if people want to use them then that's cool - but I'd feel I was cheating myself.

I don't use save states, but I really would like know how handle this. My main practice way is credit feed, even in games with training mode. It's until I know All what I need do, because I don't like wast my best attentive in one stage only training I wanna do it in one real good run.

Only for note: Use save state for practice score after the 1cc is anything for think, but use save state for practice x100 one part in order of get 1cc is the sucks of galaxy, cheat of hell, pray for get out,...

Cool!

Hell is having to play through stages with no challenge and no point.
