Some forums allow code like...

[youtube]h46y0N9nUec[/youtube]

...which embeds the actual youtube video right inside the forum itself.

Slowing the forum down while a simple link offers the audience a view of the vid as well.

I just like to keep things simple, and love the restrictions avatar/signature/video posting wise!

What happens if you have more than one youtube on the page? A garbled audio mess?
This industry has become 2 dimensional as it transcended into a 3D world.

The videos don't start automatically. Really, they're not much worse than embedded images.
Feedback will set you free.

really no difference....you have to click the embedded video to start it, and if its just a link, you click the link and it loads the youtube page in a tab and autoplays

either way, one click

Embedding YouTube videos increases the amount of vertical scroll on any given page, which is annoying for people with small screens on mobile devices, or people who like to use small windows.

It's also annoying when people post gigantic images, that's why I prefer thumbnail links.

Two sides to each coin. I find it annoying when people post thumbnails and much prefer average size (not full size) images in posts, as well as embedded youtube links.

To each their own I guess.

No big deal either way! ;)

Does raise the problem of 'mobile web'... almost every site needs to be redesigned for optimum experience on mobile technology.

I would agree if I hadn't a Tate'd monitor. :P 8)

As far as I know, this forum is supposed to be fairly lightweight, so you can actually browse and read things. Adding all these shiny features and tricks doesn't really help much, as you could just put some [url] tags and do pretty much the same thing.

Hence why avatars and sigs are supposed to be low resolution, and why threads with lots of large images aren't exactly praised (though I don't hear much about that).

I agree that avatars and sig's should be small, in any forum.
