Twinkle Star Sprites and Magical Drop 3 and Money Puzzle Exchanger and Windjammers shit all over this post. :!: Neo is nonstop awesome games, just not in traditional shmup land.

You need not even go that far. Viewpoint still remains to this day as my favorite game ever, and if that weren't enough, shmups like Last Resort, Pulstar, and others make this guy's insinuation a total lie.

Last Resort= the arcade version (fancy version) of all 16 bit shmups
Pulstar= R-types hotter and preppier sister, best argument for pre-rendered graphics EVER
Blazing Star= not so hot for replays, but AMAZING if you havn't played it for awhile. plus, the pre-rendered graphics and music rule. I think the blue ship is pretty intense for chaining.
Prehistoric Isle 2= Amazing AND monotonous
Andro Dunos= frustrating
Zed Blade= ugly squares
alpha mission 2= to hard

I rather like ASO 2, but I play it on normal. MVS is too much. Two players on normal is great fun also.

I see where you're going with this, but Viewpoint isn't a traditional shmup in my book. ;) Anyway, I don't think the Neo lacks playable shmups, but nobody would say they're its strong suit.

Nobody? Nobody save one. That'd be me. I *bought* the system because of Viewpoint (the absolute primary reason), Magician Lord, NAM-1975, Pulstar, Metal Slug, and others. I went on to purchase Last Resort, Aero Fighters 2, and several others. The only fighters I ever bought were part of a package deal that I wanted, and I sold them at the first available opportunity.

Now, that being said, I'm not going to be one who says that the Neo doesn't offer some strong fighting games in its roster, but to me, that elicits what amounts to the most peaceful yawn you'll ever hear in your life. One that honestly communicates this sentiment: "Who really cares?"

If I never played another fighting game on the Neo, I'd live a completely fulfilled life.
