I just watched part of a speed replay of PC Hexen II, (http://www.archive.org/search.php?query=hexen) and the gameplay definately looks like it's right up my alley!
So I was wondering about the N64 port of Hexen-IGN rates it poorly because of some slowdown, but other then that, they say it's a pretty straight-forward port of the PC game.
N64 Hexen...any better then the PS1 port??....

I didn't much care for the N64 port (again, the slowdown was a big drawback), but I'm biased as I didn't much care for the game to begin with (it's a shame that level designers still persisted in creating substandard hub-based levels after Hexen had been released. You'd think that they would have realized that they just didn't work that well)

BTW, how bad is the slowdown-are we talking like 5FPS, or something ridiculous like that? Because I've played plenty of games I like that have slowdown.roushimsx wrote:I didn't much care for the N64 port (again, the slowdown was a big drawback), but I'm biased as I didn't much care for the game to begin with (it's a shame that level designers still persisted in creating substandard hub-based levels after Hexen had been released. The 36 frames/second limitation is history on the PC.

The MD2 replacement models available for Hexen are pretty nice. With those and camera interpolation, it's a better game.

The N64 version has high res textures that the PS-1 version lacked & smoother frame-rate. The PS-1 version has a cool FMV intro unlike the N64 & PC, but play the PC version instead using the Doomsday OpenGL patch. It feels like a completly new game, the graphics are awesome & it has CD-Audio music which the N64 doesn't.dave4shmups wrote:I just watched part of a speed replay of PC Hexen II, (http://www.archive.org/search.php?query=hexen) and the gameplay definately looks like it's right up my alley!

This is one of my all time favorite FPS which utilizes a lot of RPG/Adventure elements.
