I bought a Neo CD pad recently and had a lot of trouble with some of the directional inputs not registering. There was also no click the the switches at all.
I've followed this guide to repairing the switches, and it resulted in the inputs working. However they aren't very responsive at all, and I can only get a proper click to register with one switch.
this guy mentions that you can buy replacement micro-switches for the pad, but I haven't seen anything like this at my electronics stores.
Has anyone been down this road before? Is there no hope?
Replacement switches for Neo CD pad?
Search the net for "tactile switches"; they're usually called that and come in various sizes, operating forces, electrical terminals, mechanical life etc... E.g:
Tactile Switches
... Similar types of switches are found behind the "clicky" shoulder buttons, on Saturn pads...

Wow, I had no idea that they were tact switches inside, I was always under the impression this pad was microswitched. So is it OK to just replace with any local supply as long as the size matches? I know the shop that KB and I visit carries a small variety of tact switches but I've never seen one like the pics at gamesx.
The term "microswitches" is really a generic term; there are so many types of "micro" sized switches...iatneH wrote:Wow, I had no idea that they were tact switches inside, I was always under the impression this pad was microswitched.
Operating force/ actuating force is just as important, because you want it to complement the centering mechanism, i.e. the overall force to engage the switches shouldn't be too hard/ soft (preference); and also fast double-taps should still be feasable...iatneH wrote: So is it OK to just replace with any local supply as long as the size matches?[...]
And from this pic:

... It looks like the plunger has a 'rim' around it unlike the pic I posted earlier; this may be important for the switches to actuate cleanly, once installed into the chassis...
I haven't done this mod; but in my experience, controllers are really very simple devices that use some kind of existing industrial technology; it's just a matter of knowing what to look for!
Edit: Typos... Also the site I linked to has various Tactile Switches, with different plungers/ actuators; so they may have something that matches...
