Home arcade pics.

Post by dpful »

Would you post pics of your hame arcades? Not just home machines, but home arcades (multiple games).

To make a long story short, me and my wife bought a house, sold it and made just enough for a down-payment on a much larger house requiring a COMPLETE remodeling job (it was a 2 story house in the exact condition of the zombiest house in RE4). (by the way, it is now a beautiful mansion on the inside- the outside is still trashed and has broken glass and 'no trespassing' signs up)
For the last year, we've been working on it, and I have JUST gotten the basement finished, and all my cabinets down there, and am almost ready to put them together and post some pics myself. I wanted to see what some of you have done.

So, what steps are you going to take in restoring this?

Ultimately I'm going to replace the access door, sidewalls, and baseboard. I'll also re-blue the outer control panel. Luckily, the section around the stick, buttons, and coin mech is mostly clean. The stick itself works but will be replaced. Seems to be a Wico stick with leaf switches, but has an odd mounting plate. The marquee, instruction plate, and bezel are all mint. I also don't trust the PSU or monitor, as they're both factory original from 1981.

Yeah, it's a lot of work for an obscure proto-shmup. Picked it up at an auction for $200 about ten years ago. Owned by a farmer who bought it for his grandchildren to play. Actually went to school with one of them.

here's my current layout:

Image

counterclockwise from the door: defender, asteroids deluxe, martial champions cab running a neo 4-slot(currently viewpoint,kof98,last resort, and metal slug x), missile command, silent scope 2, egret 29(currently heavy barrel with rotary sticks!), astro city horizontal(currently running ranger mission atomiswave), and astro city vert(currently running espgaluda).
the cocktail cab is mame, and it's not actually in the room. Where it is shown in the picture is actually a closet. The cocktail cab is in the hallway outside the room. it's a small room, gonna move the arcade into the garage eventually so I can expand ;P

here's a quick vid walkthrough...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VHL05BU10TM

edit: plus a few dozen pcb's jamma and classic w/jamma adapters. Pretty sure I'm bringing the candies to CAX, maybe silent scope and the neo conversion too...

This is an awesome thread! :D

Sweet setups all round. Dpful, I love some of those cabs, especially the egret and the Ghosts n Goblins.
Sven, I have no idea how you have so many fantastic shmups - you must have worked hard at school right?

I can't find a pic of it, but I build a new frame and tilted it. Here's a picture I drew last time I couldn't find a photo

I guess it did, but I bought it all so long ago and over such a long period of time (looking for deals) that it deosn't seem that way- I just spent all my extra money from my shitty job on it. Plus, it's all fixed up junk. I think the most expensive thing in there is the sit down cab and it was 300$- (the egret was originally 400 now that I think of it).......

One mame computer was free
one mame computer was 300$
all cabs (minus sit down and egret) were 25 to 150$
Big monitor in sit down was 200$
Med res monitors in vert mame cab and gradius IV were around 250$
25 inch monitor in neo geo and naomi were around 250$
PCB collection was a steady stream of 50 to 200$ (minus naomi gd-rom which was a bit more)
None of the cabs are EVER coming out of the basement, so I'm fucked if I ever sell the house (the sit down was taken apart to a a flat stack of boards and then re-asembled downstairs!)
Jpac and AVGA parts were a couple hundred bucks.
There's a DDPDOJ, ESPgaluda, and Ibara that were around 300 each.

dpful: What size is the monitor underneath the fresnel lense? I have one of those lenses stashed away ($3) as well, but I've never put much energy into using it (yet).

It's a 25" monitor. The lens is almost right in front of it, and brings it maybe to 29 or 30", but the real purpose of the lens is to tip the monitor forward. It fit in the cab a little too angled, and amazingly enough, the lens makes it appear perfectly tipped up. It also amazingly hides all sorts of garbage: the filtering of MAME ran on a medium res monitor, geometry that's a little bad on one side. It looks very organic and is fun to play on.

Cool. I have a 20" monitor in one of my cabs. Perhaps it's time to dust of my fresnel lense for that one and bump it up to a 25". :P
