Gah, I've reached the final boss twice by now, but I can't seem to figure out how to damage it. Any tips?

Good job landshark :)

Could you show me pics of the changing room? I unlocked all the other rooms but I really don't feel like rescuing girls, it's a real pain. Either they don't show up or they're in the most inaccessible places. Once I see what's inside I can quit this game for good.

I'm not sure how I got it as I didn't rescue 10. But here's an in-game shot. You go into the room and you come out as the chick (character swap):

Also - the reason I was able to get so many damsels and complete the game (I had 9 hearts going into the boss fight) was because I got the rocket pack in level 3. I had over $40,000 by that time and there was a shop. If you have the opportunity, TAKE IT. It makes the game infinitly easier because you can fly over and drop down on everything. Plus it makes damsels easier to get (especially on the ice level), which gives you more hit points.

I can finally join the illustrious Spelunky winners club ;D

I'm happy that I beat it without a jetpack or cape too, also my time was 12:33.

I haven't opened any of the doors in the score room though..

That's it? I was expecting some more costumes there.

Those secret doors are pretty disappointing, considering all the work needed to unlock them.

I think the chick might not take damage from falling. I'm not sure. I think there are some perks to using her. I was hoping it would open up some challenge levels or something.

Then again, this IS a free game, and it's not done =)

The game still needs a bit of ironing out. I've had my character get stuck in a glitch before (think it has something to do with hanging off a ledge) and needed to restart the game on a couple different occasions now.
Of course, that's just an opinion.

Scratch that. The chick doesn't seem to have any benefit that I can find.

If anyone is interested, here's a quick way to cheat and unlock all the secret rooms:

Open regedit HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Game Maker\Scores\834524 and change:

* Rank1 = FNDPGLOAOBOCODOEOFOGOHOIOJOKOLOMDKDNDNDFEK
* Rank2 = JNBHGCOAOBOCODOEOFOGOHOIOJOKOLOMEBDHDMDF
* Rank3 = BFKOEJOAOBOCODOEOFOGOHOIOJOKOLOMDIDHDLDMEE

I'll join the club, if you don't mind.

It was my 603rd attempt, for the record, and I only had 3 saves in it.

Onto spikes.

I've seen a shopkeeper blast a girl with his shotgun already...by picking up and dropping the girl (at the "kissing parlor"). She'll get up after being dazed, run out of the store, and he'll come after you.

Another win!

Image

The last 70 or so tries were attempts to complete a sub-10 minute speedrun, and I'm amazed at the ease of the accomplishment compared to the my puny attempts to even beat the game at first.

Was going pretty swwe until level ~10, where I met an alien who provided me a free jetpack for the rest of the game. Also met the mummy twice for some reason (stages 13 and 14, iirc).

I recorded a failed sub-5:30 speedrun attempt where I miserably died on the last boss.

I'll upload another one when I hit sub-5 and complete the game in the same run.

That was awesome moozooh :o You need to get really lucky with the stages layout and items found to get the time that low. That jetpack on stage 2 was gold.

I'm not keeping up with the updates, what's that black altar?

That's a Kali altar. You can sacrifice things on it a-la ADoM, in return Kali will give you hitpoints, random items and some other crap depending on how much you have sacrificed in a single playing session.

As far as I know, the black altar is something that's bad. It spawns like six small spiders if you destroy it ("How dare you defile my altar!" um yeah it looks pretty defiled already). Also, I love boulders.

is this being ported to PSP, by chance? It looks like it'd fit handhelds like a glove.

I found out that if you drop an unconscious caveman on the altars, they'll get disappeared and you get a message saying the bugaboo Kali is pleased with you. Hooray! Of course, the caveman might wake up and start walking around - had that happen to me once right as I got killed trying to remove lots of cavemen from the map :lol:

I bet it works with corpses and other humanoids...hmm, maybe on the plant things too.

Yay, I got to the final tileset, finally. Great level 2 shotgun + jetpack combo. My stats are almost all new as a result:

266,925
142
6

On the secret challenges:

Sun 26
Moon 0 (not unlocked yet)
Stars 11 ( :D )

624 plays on this machine (plus some on my laptop, although that's not very good to play on).

I love how there's a bunch of hidden bosses. I also love how the shotgun takes them all out easily 8)

Of the 'better' things Kali has given me, I've gotten +10 (or something HP), and also 99 bombs.

I sacrificed every damned Yeti in 2 successive levels and ended up with 17 HP and 99 bombs and I can't remember the message but she was really happy.

I died in level 14 by a 1-hit Thwomp.

Holy crap. I still haven't been able to unlock that door. I also installed windows 7 and lost all my stats. Stupid game stores that crap in the registry?

Kali is ecstatic with you!

Your satchel feels full.

I haven't bothered much with the altars my last 25 (or so) plays (since hitting the 600 play mark) since the DAMN GHOST.

I'm not sure what I hate more - shopkeepers, the ghost (I have yet to get the crystal skull; I haven't seen it since I realized I could drop a bomb to safely dislodge it from its platform), or playing without the shotgun + jetpack combo.

Nice, just ventilated 20 merchants standing on the same platform the whole time (lol). Game starts spawning a shitton of spiders and there's not enough time between reloads to target them. :( I ended up getting shot by a merchant but I only had 1 HP left - all due to spiders.
