There's an F-Zero 2?!? Screen shots NOW!!Shatterhand wrote:Yes, WIld-Guns is underrated. That's a SNES game I recommend
I also recommend
Pocky & Rocky 2

Ok, not all of those are "underrated", but I guess those are my fav SNES games.

I thought I was the only SoulBlazer fan on Earth up till now, heh. I actually prefer it to Gaia for sopme reason...no idea why, as I acknolwedge the game's multiple shortcomings, but I've come back and played through that thing again and again more than almost any other SNES game I have...I've yet to try Terranigma though.Stormwatch wrote:the SoulBlazer trilogy

I'll third the recommendation of this game - it's great fun. But sjewkestheloon's right - this game most definitely won't hold your hand, or help you out in any way. It's damn tough.sjewkestheloon wrote:megadrive port of flashback is far superior to the snes one but the snes port is still quality gameplay wise. great game but hard as a bastard
And yeah, the cut-scenes in it on SNES run at anywhere from 1-10 frames per second. Seriously, the intro scene runs at about 1 fps for a few seconds. It's awesome, seriously.

man youre all whack!!, when th ehell were games like FF3, chrono T, super metroid and castlevania 4 underrated.. ??
no-ones mentioned Metal Warriors a semi-sequel to cybernator, with a very addictive 2player deathmatch mode to boot.. USA release only..
Total carnage is another awesome game, sequel/prequel/whattever to smash TV only with a war theme.. I'D BUY THAT FOR A DOLLAR!!
R-type 3 maybe not that underrated but dammit.. best damn shmup on the SNES, and only 2nd in th ertype series to delta.. one bitching game.. both to play and track down

Flashback is awesome. But the SNES port surely isn't the way to go... every other version available is better than the SNES one.
But HARD? I don't think so, It took me just 4 days to finish the game... against 1 week that Another World took me (And Another World is usually regarded as a "Stupidly easy game"
)
But it doesn't matter, I've finished Flashback hundreds of time... up until the point I finished it in one sitting, without using any continues!

F-Zero 2 was a Satellaview game - that was Nintendo's satellite modem for the SNES. If you find any ROM with "BS" before the name, that's a Satellaview game.
I'd have to agree with the people who mentioned Jim Power and Biometal - both are excellent games.
As far as other underrated games go, here's a few I enjoy:
Super Castlevania IV - tough game, but in my opinion, it's the best one before the playstation/gba Castlevanias.
Secret of Evermore - easily one of my most favorite RPGs. Great gameplay system, balanced difficulty, and a decent story to top it off.
Metal Warriors - great side-scrolling mech platformer. Multiplayer is just a ton of fun.
Run Saber - mediocre platformer, choppy controls, but I always still enjoyed it.
Sparkster - a smooth, slick, but ridiculously tough platformer by Konami. Full with a pseudo-shmup level at the end.

"No beer until you've finished your tequila!"
The main sprite has been changed to a blonde stereotyped superhero. Some shooting stages, like the jetpack ones, are removed, and some other are added: there are shmuppy sections with a tiny ship now, and some overhead view mode7 stages in which Jim rides a motorcycle and must exit from a maze (think Alien Breed on vehicle).BrianC wrote:How does the SNES version compare to the Amiga version?DarkWolf7 wrote:Jim Power - one of the best action platformers on the system.
The whole game makes use of a weird pseudo 3D effect and is sold with the mandatory special glasses but, unlike many atrocius 3Dglasses games, the effect is not noticeable at all if you don't wear them, so you can still play it normally.
The music does make a good use of the Snes. The Amiga original sounds better, and the PCEDuo version has rearranged redbook audio, but the Snes version will not disappoint you. Have a look, it is worthy.

I always found the parallax scroll in SNES Jim Power completely weird. There's one layer going to LEFT and another layer going to RIGHT while you move. It's very weird, and it you look only at the background while playing, you'll get headaches.

Hells yes.Accutron wrote:Sunset Riders.
I'm happy someone mentioned Run Sabre here, too, because that game never gets mentioned. It's a definite ripoff of Strider and Contra, but it's freaking awesome. Kinda hard to find too, because Atlus published it.
I keep seeing a loose cart of Skyblazer for like a buck at a store but keep on passing it because of the craptascular box art.
Oh, and I hate the Rushing Beat (Japanese name) trilogy. I heard their original forms were good, but I sure as hell know the localised games (Rival Turf, Brawl Brothers, and The Peace Keepers) bore me to death. Just incredibly mediocre beat em ups to me, nothing more.

I remember seeing a web site with some pictures of it a few months ago, but forgot where from.Shatterhand wrote:RUN SABRE
OMG, I've seen a review of this in a magazine AGES ago, and I never played the game. I always remembered that by the review , the game looked awesome, but I could never remember the name of the game!
It's a really cool game with some huge bosses (albeit they're easy); that skeletal princess is one of the most awesome graphical techniques I've seen the SNES do.

I remember renting that thing WAY back when...I scarcely remember it now, but I do remember that it was a pretty short game. For the couple of bucks you'd spend for it, though, it probably wouldn't be too bad a purchase. I also remember another sword-slashing side-scroller called X-Kaliber 2097 (or something like that)...I remember that one even less though.
Ironic how the skeletal princess was a non-skeletal princess in the Japanese version, if I remember correctly.LoneSage wrote:I remember seeing a web site with some pictures of it a few months ago, but forgot where from.Shatterhand wrote:RUN SABRE
