Are you looking strictly for ones with realistic setting or are games like Viper Phase 1 OK too?

1941 Counter Attack - Capcom.
UN Squadron/Area 88 - Capcom.
Twin Hawk/Daisenpuu - Toaplan.
Desert War - Jaleco Mega System.
P47 Aces - Jaleco Mega System.
In your list - Flying Shark and Sky Shark are basically the same game.
Thread title mentions vertical but you include P-47 The Phantom Fighter which is Horizontal so I added a couple.

I'm trying to think of a shmup that DOESN'T involve war of some kind. Even Donpachi, which supposedly is only a contest among pilots in the same army, is still about war because they are searching for the best pilot in order to use him in the war after the contest.

Might be easier just to list those vert games that don't involve a war theme.

Tttturbo Force, the most realistic vert war shooter there is.
Don't forget Fighting Hawk now.
Adding Raiden on there means everything's game, right?
I summon a MAHOU DAISAKUSEN (& co.) also Star Farce and Sad Soldier series too.
