Resident Evil top lists

Post by UnscathedFlyingObject »

Please elaborate.

Main Series:

1. RE4:
It blew my mind when it came out with its original premise, gameplay and awesome graphics. I still play it too often. If I had to say anything bad about it, it's that the end felt kind of anticlimatic and the dialogue goofy. The dialogue is like a bunch of one-liners in a row.

2. RE2
I have so many fond memories of playing this when it came out. The gameplay is carbon copy from RE1 but man, they polished everything else vigorously.

3. RE3
I like how they introduced so many new gameplay mechanics. Dodging, gunpowder mixing, Live Selections, exploding containers, etc. Most enemies also require more strategy than just shooting at a distance. Too bad there's two bosses in the whole game. One being a huge ass penis.

4. REmake
An awesome remake, but a remake is still a remake. I wish they had left the Jill sandwich line in there or at least a reference.

6. RECVX
I didn't like the story very much and never felt like replaying it. Claire is in it though, just have to forget about the love interest.

5. RE0
Blergh, I hate Rebecca. If I gave her ammo, she wasted it. If I didn't give her ammo, she'd get hit and I'd have to waste my healing items. The AI partner was a horrible idea and the whole thing was seriously generic.

Spin-offs
 I haven't played any yet.

RE2 is getting looked at for a remake now that RE5 is out. That would seriously kick major ass since its old school RE and not this FPS wannabe.

Although saying that 4 and 5 hold their own as great games, they just shouldn't have RE in the title.

RE0 was dire, I hated the fact that you didn't have a locker and left things all over the place only to back track again to find them.

Other than that the series has done well.

Personally I still hold the original first game as my favourite. Rented it in a local video store when it was new, and loved it. Bought the Director's Cut when it got out.

I finished RE4 for the first time in years last night, it is a great game, however I'll never play it again. It has a lot of filler in it in my opinion and could have been hours shorter. A lot of enemy re-use. Goofy dialog too as someone else said, but I guess thats a staple of the RE series. I'm running through seperate ways now as quick as possible and it seems pretty good as a bonus.

First one will forever be my favourite, directors cut especially, but I like REmake too, I'm not really a fan of 2,3 and I've never played CV.

Remake is a great looking game and tense as hell, RE4 gave you more of an action panic type feel but no sense of dread really.

Resident Evil 1 (or Biohazard, I played the jap version on a jap PSX... in that time of 50 Hertzage and PAL stretchitude... it made a BIIIIIIIIIIIIG difference in terms of feeling) will always be my favourite. Sparse enemies and palpable tension. That's what RE should be, not a nigga-quake.

RE2 was very good but a bit pretentious, I never had the nerve to finish it although I got quite far.

Never played 3. I hated RE4, but I'm probably the only one in the world since everybody happen to love it inconditionally.

Never played 5. RE0 was fun, although absolutely overhyped, but the buddy system was a pain in the ass, pretty much like dragging around Mary in Silent Hill 2 (that is my fave SH btw).

Codename Veronica had fantastic graphics at the time, and that alone brought me happily to the end. The DC was really something <3

RE Gun Survivor was probably one of the worst games I've ever played.
Alas, Ikaruga is going...

Undesired, unwanted them...
What makes them go?

The director of part 5 said they talked about it, but due to working on 5 they couldn't start the project. I never heard anything more than that.

This is possibly where I read it -

Actually, RE2 is not getting looked at for a remake. The producer himself said that it was unlikely they'd go back to the old style of gameplay. Besides, RE:The Darkside Chronicles has just been announced and that is based on RE2 and CVX.

I still love to play RE3 and Remake because they're still challenging. 2, despite the fact that it is fucking fantastic, is also really, really easy. (minigames not withstanding, of course)

Mercenaries was also a fucking awesome bonus.

So uh my list would be kinda like

RE3 (I still have yet to beat all the Nemesis encounters in one run)
RE2 (so much content)
REmake/RE1 (DS port is so nice)
Code: Veronica (getting the top rank is pretty tough, but it's also kind of cheap at times; good length though)
RE0 wasn't a bad game, but I think by the time I played it my enthusiasm for the series was drying up.

I got the RE4 special edition on launch day and haven't really spent any time with it. What I played was really good, but it wasn't what I was hoping for in an RE game so I've neglected it.

I would like an RE2/3 port as much as a remake. C'mon DSi

Digital Press had this exact same topic on the 17th, so I'll just copypasta my thots frum thar:

Resident Evil 2: The first one I played (if only for a few minutes), and the only one I can really claim to feel nostalgia for. But beyond that, it's a very good game with amazing atmosphere.

Resident Evil 4: Lots of good scenarios and a few amazing ones; great mood (with one of the widest ranges of weather and lighting effects I can recall in a game), and serviceable controls for a decent if somewhat slow action gaming experience. Pretty much perfect given the system.

Resident Evil Remake (2002 GC): I think this is pretty much the stylistic apex of this sort of game. Favorite moments: Running around the hallway, into the area with the hanging coffin, and the music track "Cold Water." Not quite the epic that RE2 is, but otherwise it's really improved over the PSX games in nearly every imaginable way. I only put it below RE4 because I can only replay the games with tank controls so much (and that also limits my willingness to go through RE4 often).

Code Veronica: Still a very good game, but it's basically the same as previous installments in pacing and look. Favorite track: #66, Rasen. Next favorite - Deja Vu (just the intro). The graphics are very good despite being used mainly as a marketing gimmick for the Dreamcast (later ported to the GameCube, and sold for very low prices - that's where I got my copy).

Resident Evil 3: Haven't played much of it yet, but it strikes me as very ugly compared to RE2, with lower-quality CG backdrops - but that only counts for so much. Quite possibly deserves a higher rating.

Not yet played: RE Zero and many of the more exotic titles (GBC, Gun Surviror titles, and so on).

Sweet Home fits somewhere between rank #2-#4. Dino Crisis fits either just before or after Code Veronica (only lower on account of the neverending warehouse scenes, not enough jungle in this one), and I haven't played DC 2 yet. I'm not enthusiastic about Dino Crisis 3.

I have the original Biohazard for Saturn, and a couple guides for it as well - mainly out of curiosity's sake; it's a bit dated and probably superseded by the remake in every way. That said, I'm aware the original game got an entirely new soundtrack for the Director's Cut (one of the first games my folks bought for me - and one I never got to play; it's the only one I know of that they returned; on account of the gory cover; it's funny to think how far things have come in the gore department - and RE1 carved out this niche or more accurately bit through it, one vertebrae at a time).

Nemesis's AI is probably too good in RE3. I can hardly beat him without a couple First Aid Kit. Except inside the police station. I can knife him there .

Really? Back in the day it was inside the police station that wrecked my healing stock. In the courtyard you've got plenty of room to maneuver and dodge. Inside it can be kind of hard to stay away. After that encounter I was generally too low on healing items and could never fully recover between other Nemesis fights and random damage from enemies.

Also, how exactly do you knife Nemesis? I can't knife worth shit.

You can knife him by taking advantage of a glitch in the collision detection inside the police station. The video below shows you how to do it.

1. Resident Evil Remake

Two characters, superb graphics, great atmosphere, many secrets, lots of special modes (invisible zombie, real survivor). Sadly, no minigame.

2. Resident Evil: Code Veronica

One of the best stories in a videogame ever. Very long (the longest RE game), great graphics, cool minigame. Replay value isn't that high, because there's not much to unlock. Only one character.

3. Resident Evil 2

My first RE game. Two characters, a whole new leveldesign in the B game, thus the replay value is quite high. Two minigames including the best one ever: TOFU survivor. It's worth to buy RE2 only because of Tofu!

4. Resident Evil 0

Best graphics I've ever seen. Deep atmsophere, two characters at once. Good length. Nice minigame.

5. Resident Evil 3 Nemesis

Great idea with Nemesis (eventhough RE2 already had a Nemesis-like creature). Very good minigame. Sadly only one character and close to no replay value.

6. Resident Evil 4

Complete shite. Fails to be a survival horror game in every aspect. Too easy, bad story, no atmosphere at all and worst of all: NO ZOMBIES! How can you make an RE game without having zombies??? RE defined zombies in videogames! On top of that this game has no fixed camera angles and no door opening/stair climbing sequences. Bottom line: Feels like some generic action game crap, has nothing to do with the Resident Evil franchise.

While I'd rank the first 5 all over 90%, RE4 would only get like 30%, so there's a huge gap. Haven't played the other RE's, but it looks like Capcom hasn't learned anything out of their failure that was RE4, because RE5 just looks the same! Director's cut on the other hand looks stunning, I really need to buy that one someday.

RE1-3 : pure awesomeness, action-adventure perfection, also fantastic intervining storyline.

RE CV : great game in all regards, just shy of the first trio mainly due to plot.

RE4: great game but not much RE if you ask me, evil spaniards cant hold a candle against zombies.

RE0,remake, survivour etc: pure shite!

have not played RE5...

Nemesis giving you trouble? do what I did, play mercenaries enough times until you get the infinite ammo m16. Thats what I did on the DC version, beat it on hard quite recently, got all the custom parts etc from taking him out.

I didn't like 2 that much, I think its because I played it very late on like after code veronica came out for DC. I liked CV, but I still really want to play the RE1 remake via the Wii at some point.

RE4 was just amazing, probably beaten it 5 times. Krauser fight is my fav bit from the series.

I didn't like 2 too much either, didn't feel anything for the bosses, birkin etc. I played through most of it when it came out but tried it again a year or so ago and finished it, but never wanted to play it again.

Just give me re1/remake and I'll be happy now, I've played 4 to death and once I've finished ada's seperate ways side mission, I am going to put it to bed.

Not to be a buzzkill but using infinite ammo kind of takes the point out of doing a challenge run. :p

Re 1-3 were all excellent. Id say the first game is my favorite though. 4 is a good enough game on its own but it is not RE as far as I'm concerned. Have no interest in 5. Code Veronica was pretty good too.

RE2 = awsom
RECV = awsom x2

I lire RE3 but i hate music puzzles XD

RE4 is... strange, it don't feels like Re for me. Also 80s trash movies story and games is TO DAMN LONG.

having never played it to the end (only round at a friends house) I cant comment on the game being too long or not. What makes it too long for you guys? Was it just drawn out or were they making you milk badguys for ammo for boss fights?

16 hours for RE games is too much. ( i just beat it on 2nd time, and again 16 hours (i haven't used any special weapons - started from new save file).
Too much of repetition.
Also Castle stage is just... boring.
About milking, for me, all bosses are weak - you just need some magnum shots, so i never had any problem with ammo)

But, anyway the game itself are good - tons of bonuses and replay value, looks cool even on PS2 (which i used to play).
I haven't played AS Ada and Separate ways yet.

Been over this on WPG recently. Never got on with any of the RE's before 4, much (other than getting to the giant snake room in RE1 and not getting past it, and finishing RE2's arrange mode). Hate the controls. Truly HATE.

RE4 was utterly brilliant.
