My NTSC-J PS2's acting weird.

Post by Momijitsuki »

I was just playing DOJ on it the other day, but when I turned it on today, all I got was an error message with some kanji I didn't understand, followed by a ヂィスクがありません error (which I *think* means it doesn't recognize the disc). I'm not sure what's going on... perhaps some of you guys can help?

It's a slim NTSC-J PS2, if that helps.

Thanks in advance.

DISK ga arimasen, literally, disk got none

So you're right, it thought you put some toast in the slot instead. Sounds like a classic case of the drive-gone-bads.

So what should I do? Is there something I can do, or should I proceed into turning it into a toaster so putting toast in the slot would actually be effective?

If it's not too dissimilar from US PS2s, you could check out some stuff via Google about Disc Read Errors.

PlayStation.com boards

ars technica

I haven't used either of these myself (hell, I've never even had a PS2), so somebody else might have completely different recommendations.

I just gave it the ol' NES treatment, and it worked like normal. ;D
