Progear Boot?

Post by undamned »

8 1/2 sent me a Progear to change th battery on and to my shock, it had no battery:

I don't remember what my original looks like inside, but as I recall, it has an extra daughter board that this one lacks. This one almost looks like a game conversion, which I didn't even know was possible for CPS2. Any thoughts?

Conversions are indeed possible.

That looks like a boot or conversion to me.

This thread will become a useful reference, and already has a photo of a bootleg progear which looks very similar.

I believe original progears should have the SIMM daughterboard such as JPJ's original photo in that thread. (using surplus CPS3 SIMMS)

Another major pointer is the fact its a blue progear (being rare), and it has a red coloured label which I believe isn't officlal anyway - its definitely a conversion.

I would say it is a bootleg, I have owned two Progears and they both have the daughter board as Kernow has explained above.

At least the game seems to play fine. I've never seen any glitches or bugs in the time I've owned it. It was a random ebay purchase, and in the end cost me $300. I'm really not stressing that it's a boot, as it's kind of cool to have a version I don't have to worry about dying on me. When I get good enough to chase the world record I'll get a legit copy. :)
