About Twilight and Battle Garegga

Post by KindGrind »

I'm merely trying to see if the die-hard Garegga players are more inclined towards the Twilight series than the other shmup players. I think I may be onto something...

Fans of Raizing's masterpiece, do you love everything Twilight?

Cave is my fave.

Unless you're a 12 year old girl, there's no excuse to be a fan of twilight. I HATE twilight!

As a Raizing fan myself, you're right, that is what Raizing fans like

I enjoy games from Caves and Raizings… but I am with out clue to what this 'Twilight' is…

I only know of twilight as in:

'The Twilight Zone'
'The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess'

as well as in reference to the time of day as the sun sets and approaches night as the twilight of the day. I enjoy the twilight of the day as the sky has a very nice and rubust color… usually highlighted with dark orange, browns, and even purple…

I'm quite eager to hear how you're hoping to relate one's shmupping tastes with one's preference in popular young adult fiction...not to mention what similarities you see between those books and Raizing's games.

Or whether this whole thing is just a joke/trollish thread.

Well, this obviously has to be seen as a semi-serious thread. Maybe the two things SEEM completely unrelated, but I find the replies I've seen so far to be quite colorful. Rather surprised to see, too, that some people haven't heard of the books, as they seem to be everywhere I go. I swung by the mall this morning and saw the walls plastered with ads about the thing, probably because the movie was ouy yesterday for home viewing.

Garegga (and APB) are probably the manliest shmups ever, and Twilight appeals mostly -let's not kid ourselves- to 10-14 y/o females. Yet I thought... Could the 2 be related? Could I see a guy sitting in front of his cab wearing a tee with Edward's ugly mug on it? Thought it would be rather unlikely, yet the idea amused me and I felt like seeing what people thought.

Hence the thread.

I think you meant Touhou fans, Twilight is basically dumbed down teenage Anne Rice, and considering I thought AR was dumbed down teenage vampire drama that's not saying much.

I like Raizing though.

Haha. True about people being from all around.

No coming out for me. Truth is, I saw probably 300 people (must be pretty close from actual figure) reading the book(s) at work over the course of the last few months. Those who don't read the thing pretty much bitch it, so it's all around. Hence my surprise people who don't know anything about it. I realize this may be more in NA than anything else, and that my sample is not representative :)

Twilight frightens me. I avoid it like the plague. I saw on the news the line of fan girls waiting for the DVD release, and I was even more frightened.

And... I prefer Cave to Raizing. I really like some of Raizing's stuff for the atmosphere, style, and music, but I don't like needing a strategy guide to play my shooters. Keep it simple, stupid.

The fact that I can play through Dodonpachi and slowly figure out how to chain stages as I go along is good. No strategy guide needed. But if I hadn't read that certain types of damage give more points for destroying certain enemies in Battle Garegga, I'd have never known, or how to destroy all the bits on the second boss, seriously, who the fuck thought that up? I also don't like the idea of killing myself to make it easier to live. Too counter-intuitive to my shooter instincts. It also tends to make me play lazily, since I'm not as worried about dying, which also makes the game less exciting.

Having an annoying nosey bitch tell you about how she bought 3 books in the worst series ever expecting some lady to become a vampire, only to hear 'instead she gets knocked up, and it was annoying how the sex scene was one sentence'.
Considering it's a book for stupid goth babbies, I consider her idea of what it should have been incredibly anger-inducing.

SPARKLY VAMPIRES WOOOOO! NOW WITH 110% MORE PRETENTIOUS THAN REGULAR VAMPIRES!

How Battle Garegga is related is totally beyond me.

I felt the exact same way for a long time, up until I played Ibara and invested time learning "the system". I watched "The Lunatic" and what I saw amazed me to no end. It's not about copying what somebody else did, but when you have at least an idea of what you should do or pick up or not, or where and when is it good to suicide, the game gets a lot -and I mean a lot- more interesting. Medal chaining is very, very addictive. Milking the bosses a lot less so, but that's another story.

It is after playing Ibara quite a lot that I went back to Garegga. The rank didn't bother me as much and I could adjust my vision to see the so called invisibullets that I had plagued against many times before. I can't score competently in it but I have fun when I play it now.

My wife made me buy Twilight on Blu-Ray on release day. I'd rather have been playing Garrega. That being said...it's not BAD....just not all that good. It's an overly so-so movie IMO. I haven't read the books...but my wife has. Saw the movie...didn't hate it, but it didn't exactly move me. She loves it though...and she plays Animal Crossing and Maple Story. Those are pretty much like Battle Garrega, right? *looks around*

Twilight is quite possibly the novel equivalent of fanfiction.net and I can't see why anyone would like it aside from 13 year old ditzy girls.

I probably should have posted here earlier since at the moment I'm teaching middle school.

Yes, the most obvious correlation is between being a 12 year old female and liking twilight. I actually haven't read the books or seen the movie, but I hear enough from my students to get an idea.

It was funny, at the same time that movie was coming out, we (here in the US) were actually graced with the similarly themed but excellent 'Let the right one in'. Hmmm.

Probably neither of these correlate with enjoying Garrega.

Twilight doesn't interest me.

I like Raizing, Bakraid more so than Garrega. I've not put much effort into their other shmups. Bloody Roar 1 or w/e was ok. Never played the sequels AFAIR.

Yeah, but the writing makes JK Rowling look like F Scott Fitzgerald.

There are worrying similarities between it and the notorious My Immortal...
