Your favorite boss klaxxon/warning

Post by ZacharyB »

I like Darius Gaiden's, which is sung. But I think my favorite warning screen is DonPachi's "Target weak points of f**king machine. Do your best you have ever done"

What's your favorite boss alarm/warning screen?

When I saw this topic, my first thought was "Donpachi is the only correct answer." Good to see you thought of it already.

I've always been partial to Night Striker's, especially in the sit-down environmental cabinet.

The sit-down cabinet of the USA region Night Strikers arcade game featured some cool slow strobing lighting effects on both inside left and right panels when playing the game. Very nice subtle touch that Mame/Mame32 emulation doesn't touch upon. ^_~

The end-stage boss warnings from the Taito 1997 release of G-Darius PCB looks superb. Taito should get off their lazy asses and do another proper G-Darius PCB sequel. It's about time, isn't it? ^_~

Taito did it pretty well, especially Night Striker and the various Darius games.

I really liked the announcer in DDPDOJ saying "watch out! watch out!" that was the first thing I thought of. It really set the mood for the game the first time playing. the entire donpachi series has really nice boss openings/warnings but just bluntly saying "watch out! watch out!" is my favorite

Dodonpachi of course, can't be beaten.
I also like all the dariuses "approaching" greia.
Alas, Ikaruga is going...

Undesired, unwanted them...
What makes them go?

+1 for the "watch out, watch out!" I forgot about that.

What was that game that showed a "GET IT MORE!" when you would pick up an item? I remember that had a pretty funky engrish warning screen.

That would none else other than the 1998 released Blazing Star for the Neo-Geo MVS mobo setup. It was in February of 1998 that the USA version of MVS Blazing Star first appeared stateside. The opening anime intro was jaw-dropping. ^_~

Hell yeah DonPachi and DDP DOJ have nice boss warnings! G-Darius is way over the top so I love it even more and Darius Gaiden also has awesome warnings... Ok, everything with the "huge battleships approaching fast" is good.

There are many cool warnings.

Hate it all you want but Ikaruga's warning+robo voice is neat and Radiant Silvergun is even better with the screen going crazy and the 'be attitude for gains'.

End Effector also has a noisy and over the top warning with a little voice saying something I can never quite understand.

Another one, hated and loved by many, is Thunder Force V. The warnings are great. Pity the bosses last less than a one dollar bill.

Genetos puts a big "THE MUTANT" when you reach the boss and Radio Zonde greets you with "The great one appear here"(sic).

Last but not least, I feel Hellsinker has one of the craziest, on-acid and completely broken boss warning around. Thus, these two are my favourites:

WARNING: AN AWESOME PRAYER IS CONFLICT WITH US. KEEP YOUR DIGNITY.

And the final boss was:

NOW REACHES THE FATAL ATTRACTION BE DESCRIBED AS 'HELLSINKER'. DECIDE DESTINATION.

They're not quite the same as in-level warnings, but I love Strikers 1945 II's level intro screens with the boss picture, blaring klaxons and frantic morse code. Even though they're about three seconds in length, I always hammer the buttons to skip them not out of impatience but "YEAHH! Let's blow up that luftwaffe mecha zeppelin right the fuck NOW!" eagerness.

I found Radiant one lame actually, a blessing boss battles following are epic. By opposition, Ikaruga's just rocks the hell out of me.

Approach your target and attack. your mission starts now. are you ready?

I liked ketsui's but there wasn't enough enthusiasm and engrish in the announcers voice. I thought this was suicide mission, where was the drama? It should have been

Apploach youl talaget and attack! youl mission stalts now! L you Leady!?

The warning sign and especially the preceding music after is definitely at the top of the 8) list

And this is why it was so cool. As well as the BE ATTITUDE FOR GAINS text.
I have NO CLUE why anyone would say Ikaruga's is better.

PS: Donpachi warning ftw.
Come check out my website, I guess. Random stuff I've worked on over the last two decades.

Hard to beat DonPachi and RSG, but there will always be a special place in my heart for Alien Soldier's "EMERGENCY".

Because Radiant Klaxxon is just lame, that is not even a klaxxon ! Klaxxons are first of all SOUNDS, they have to be loud and scary, shake your guts as a big boat whistle would. I do not take on screen texts into account when judging the klaxxon. However, this is all Radiant has : blinking flashy on screen texts. The sound is lame.

I agree on the be attitudes though, they are cool and distracting you from the boss, nice touch !

As for the Ketsui warning, it is definitely cool, but I heard it way too much in Death Label version, it is spoiled for now.

On that note, I'm not sure if Border Down's klaxxon qualifies as loud, but the way it sticks its ugly head into the midst of some of the upbeat stage tunes, it's pretty effective.

I liked Dimahoo's boss warning.

"Worry Worry Here comes the Strong one!"
