Johnny Foreigner- Waited up til it was light
Brilliant band. My girlfriend has always liked them, but I didn't really get into them until I saw them live. Almost effortlessly perfect noisy pop songs. The vocals get pretty annoying sometimes, but it's pretty hard to ignore the strength of their riffs :)

Hey guys, South By Southwest is this week:

Ugh, don't mention SXSW. I've always wanted to go, but never have the money. One of these years I'll make it.

Defeater - Travels is the best hardcore release of '09 so far, in my opinion. They used to be known as "Sluts", and are out of Boston.

I hear this guy puts on one hell of a show, how was it?

I trust the Marnie Stern performance was solid?

Matthew Dear -Minimal/Micro House.

Both his 2003 album leave luck to heaven and 2007's ASA breed.

Also SUPER hyped about MF DOOM's new album.

Thou is playing tonight and white mice are playing tomorrow. Going through that site there are some strange lineups going on.

I'm kicking myself for not making trying harder to get to Emissions from the Monolith when it was a mere 6 hour drive from me and now it's gone. If I had the cash to travel anywhere for a festival, I'd definitely go to Roadburn. This year they have Cathedral, Orange Goblin, Ufomammut, ASVA, Church of Misery, Saviours and a motherfucking St Vitus reunion. No fest in the states can top that as far as I'm concerned.
Feedback will set you free.

KK & BBQ put on a good show, but I've seen 'em much wilder. Jet lag? I would recommend seeing them if they come through your town. It's too bad Keith Morris, who was playing later, wouldn't come out and sing "Operation" with them. Also, check out KK's eightpiece, the Shrines.

Oh, and the Marnie Stern show was solid, in the face of numerous technical difficulties.

I'm all over white mice. Thanks for the recommendations, man!

Urk. I've got to shove some food in my face and catch a bus soon. I'll post yesterday's list later. Cheers!

Trash Talk
So, so, so jealous. Trash Talk is so good, one of the only hardcore bands nowadays willing to actually take a chance and try something new. They just played a show on a bridge in the middle of the night in Texas last night, and are going on tour with the Bronx of all people in a month or so. They also played a few shows with Pig Destroyer for free in LA a couple of weeks back.

Anyway, I've been listening to a lot of Robotic Empire stuff. Gods & Queens is great, City of Caterpillar, Pageninetynine, Majority Rule, Maladay, etc.

Oh, and the Level-Plane 2005 compilation "80 Records and We're Not Broke (Yet)" contains a lot of good unreleased stuff from a lot of Level-Plane's good bands from that era, not all the shitty experimental hardcore/grind they sign now.

EDIT: Anyone see the Hydra Head Showcase at SXSW?

My definite current favorite albums are Tonight The Stars Revolt [Powerman 5000], and De-loused in the Comatorium [The Mars Volta].

I'm trying to see if I like the entirety of Amputechture [by The Mars Volta].
Come check out my website, I guess. Random stuff I've worked on over the last two decades.

I don't like Brent's and the bassist dude's, never have. Brann's should be more prominent next time, since he's not obliterating the drumkit anymore. Oh yeah, album is really good.

Goatsblood - self titled
Fistula - Burdened By Your Existence
Aographobic Nosebleed - Agorapocalypse now

I finally got a hard copy of the Goatsblood cd. Still one of my favorites. I don't think I've heard another band ply a similar style. Grimey doom, sludgy grooves and fucking savage blastbeats. The new Agoraphobic Nosebleed is ace as well.
