R-Type MAME resolution

Post by dpful »

I aint no genius- I thought I'd drop a line here first before I did any research. I'm running MAME in a cab with an AVGA card and a JPAC, standard resolution monitor. Most games sync right up, R-type and R-type 2 don't. I've got to have something set funky, since the games run in standard res, but I havn't been able to work it out. Is there a trick for displaying these two on a normal monitor?

-oh shit, it just occured to me this second that maybe the horizontal hold could need adjustment on the monitor itself-- could that be the case (90% of the games load right up with direct draw and perfect res.)

Doubtful this has anything to do with it, as other games are worse, but in MAME right now, they have both R-Type 1 and 2 listed at 55.017606Hz.

Yup, that era of Irem stuff has a weird screen mode.

You should be able to tweak the monitor's vertical sync to be able to display these and normal 60Hz games, but no guarantees.

I'll try it and post back. I'm thinking it should work since I use the pcb's on the same monitor.

No luck. I can't get it to sync up. What's the technical diff? My R-Type board works great on the monitor.

does the arcade VGA support the res those games run at?

you might have to add the resolutions manually....although im not sure how you do that, or if you even can, with an arcade VGA
