I found an old copy of Darius Gaiden for PC in the bargin bin of a small computer store. I said, "Hell Yeah" and bought it.
I runs and plays ok, all the way up to the end of the first stage. After that when it gives me the option to choose my path it crashes with a message, "Cannot read from file".
What I think is the problem is that it never gave me the option to install the game, it has an uninstall but that does nothing. It just says 'play'. It doesnt have a setup.exe, so I can't just run that.
PC Darius Gaiden only saves hi-scores and settings to the HD, and pressing the "Uninstall" button wipes these. Apart from that, there´s not much use for it.
If you have multiple CD/DVD drives, you should try a different one. If not, try copying the entire contents of the Darius Gaiden CD to your HD and launch the game from there (with the CD still inserted into any drive, cause the game will still search for it´s redbook audio and refuse to start if it can´t find them).
I hope this is helpful, but remember; this port was designed to run under Win95, so it might not run despite of all your efforts.

Thanks! I got it. Seems to me that it was looking for D:\stuff but my laptop's cd drive is E:.
I copied the contents on to the computer and it works fine! If I was a little more tech swavy I could probably make a patch, but oh well.
