This is the same Edge that has a top 100 games to play list and includes only one shmup at number 51 and they go and choose R-Type Final.

The only time I'd put a page of Edge on my wall would be to throw darts at it. Industry bible my arse.

It's the most Edge like shooter (heavily stylish, modern, stupid amount of superfluous stuff, and a story with history).

It's got lots that a poncey rag like Edge can waffle on about.

Great game. Best shmup? Hah.

To be fair, it's top 100 games to play as chosen by those in the industry - it's not a top 100 games of all time.

I'd like to see the list. It'd probably be all too clear why so much money is being pumped into utter pap nowadays. Can't use the good old days argument, since there was just as much shite being made then too - but the amount of cash being pumped through the system was significantly lower.

Games developed by small, focused teams > EA style.

Aside from the possible interest these issues might be to some for shumup collectables, my idea of using them as pics for the wall included cropping the Edge bit off

if you ignore the bad treatment of shmups and to a lesser degree racing games, it's not a bad list imo.

Completely disagree with a good 30% of the choices, and it's a little too console third person 3D heavy, but overall it's not bad at all. Makes a change, was expecting a lot worse.

This still seems to surprise a lot of people. No matter who makes a "best [games/movies/books/etc] ever", whether it's a huge company or a single person posting on his blawg, there will always be people claiming the list is wrong, not good and invalid. Boggles the mind.
No matter how good a game is, somebody will always hate it. No matter how bad a game is, somebody will always love it.
