Hi everybody,
I'm planning a trip to good old Japan in a short while and was hoping to visit a number of those game shops famous for massive stock piles of retro gaming goodies. Including shumps of course.
I was hoping to get some advice of what the better places are and where they might be found.
Any suggestions would be welcome.
Many thanks!

Retro game shops in Japan
Trust in Trance
I'm a fan of the Mandarake chain of stores, particularly the one in Nakano, Tokyo. They cover all the major systems, have a lot of games coming in all the time (as well as miscellany items like books and old superplay tapes), plus good prices.
Akihabara is the obvious choice for retro games and it's pretty easy to find them once you hit that main road. Super Potato is probably the most famous and has loads of stuff but they have the worst prices. Trader and Liberty are decent if Mandarake doesn't have what you're looking for.

just dont go too far back in to the shops thats where they hide the scat porn ( in my exprience it was that way )ChurchOfSolipsism wrote:Yeah, just walk around Electric town in Akihabara and check even the smallest shops if they look remotely video games-ish. You'll find plenty of great places.

yeah part of the fun is the exploration.
outside of tokyo gets even more fun, jus go down the backstreets and venture in. If you go outside of tk you will find the prices a lot of the time are reasonable. Around TK i've had a lot of luck at the Chameleon club chain - some incredible bargains to be had
