advice needed on Flash Video stream recorders...

Post by Super Laydock »

With the fantastic Fabchannel. com concert site closing withing a week
I am worried that some of my favourite concert registrations there
will be lost for me forever.

Therefore I want to record those concerts to my computer, so I can still watch them whenever I want.
Since the clips are displayed through Adobe Flash Player 10, I suppose I need one of those flash video stream recorders.

However there seem to be an awful lot out there, and I was just wondering which recorder you guys use and recommend.
For the record, ease of use is a must with my technical skills.

thanks in advance for any suggestions, I really need those PUSA concerts... :)

With Opera, viewed flash videos show up in the cache directory (which is profile\cache4). I go there and use DIR /A /OD to find the files. You can tell which ones are videos by the larger size. Then copy to somewhere else and rename to .FLV

http://www.flashload.net/en/ works for me - loads the *.flv directly from the server to your system, as fast as the server would load it normally (no conversion is going on).

Thanks for the suggestions guys.

However I don't use Opera but Firefox instead. Just checked but that doesn't
seem to keep it in cache.

Also, that Flashload site seems very handy (and has been bookmarked), but Fabchannel isn't one of their supported sites. :(

Anyone else got any suggestions?

Do you just want to download the flash video onto your PC? If so get an addon called 'downloadhelper' for firefox, it works great :3

Hopefully it doesn't conflict with DownThemAll!

It looks okay though - the main thing when selecting an addon of this type is to make sure it's going to the cache, and not just redirecting to an online service (like FlashLoad) in the background, which is sorta missing the whole point of having such an addon (not least being that you aren't sending information about what you're watching to some site, if that's a concern).

I have 17 addons installed and none of them happen to conflict with each other!

The good thing about DownloadHelper is the fact that it literally just detects the .flv file and allows a direct download. I've been around a ton of flash video sites and have never had a problem with it.

2 months later and am totally enjoying having this add on.
It works very well and as desired.
Once again thanks for the advice. :)

Now I've even paid for registration and direct converter to wmv/avi/mp3...
and this awesome add on just got better.

Finally got the Giana Sisters intro on my MP3 player...which makes me happy. :D
Best purchase of the year by far!
