AVI superplay: Raiden Fighters Jet PWNED!!! (Finally a 1CC)
I finally did it! I 1CC'ed Raiden Fighters Jet! The Raiden Fighters Onslaught Insanity DVD really helped me out with sending my scores into the stratosphere.
188MB DivX-encoded AVI file: http://www.rf-emporium.net/rfjet/RFJ_1C ... _mk-II.avi
*This is a AVI capture of the MAME INP replay below. The sound and music are imperfect (hey, it's better than a silent 22-minute movie) and there are some graphical glitches.
For those on slower connections, the MAME INP replay (78KB ZIPped): http://www.rf-emporium.net/rfjet/RFJ_1C ... _mk-II.zip
*You need the Japanese Raiden Fighters Jet ROM set and MAME v0.94u1 or later to play this INP file.
The Raiden mk-II is my favorite ship, in case you didn't know by now. I got some huge bonus combos in this replay. Here is the scoring summary for this replay:
Level 01: The 3-tank, 100,000x8 Fairy combo before the boss, and the x6 combo on the boss' turrets. Yes, I had to give up having gold medals in this stage to get the 100,000x8 Fairy.
Level 05: I think this combo is only possible with the Raiden mk-II: comboed the second AND third DX bonuses in the trains! I got 200,000x3 on the second and 400,000x4 on the third! Another combo is the 100,000x6 Fairies bonus from the moving crane. Combo 3 is on the boss: At a Time on the two wing-mounted guns (100,000x3).
Level 15: The 100,000x9 Fairy combo after Quick-Shotting all the medium planes. Messed up in two ways here: broke my 100K medal run here and missed the 100,000x6 Fairy combo before the boss. However, at the boss, got 2 Fairies from the tanks being run over by the boss and Quick-Shot/At a Timed the boss turrets (100,000x5 final Combo).
Level 30: x9 comboed the entire level, including Quickshotting both large bomb-carrying planes (100,000x7 and 100,000x9 respectively) and the second wave of medium bombers (50,000x9 each).
Level 45: Largest combo in the superplay: Quick Shot all the medium planes, uncovered both Micluses and Discovered the Fairy. Was able to get 100,000x9 on both Micluses and grab the Fairy at 100,000x9! With the showers of 100K medals from the Micluses, this combo was worth over 5 million points!
Phase 1: Finally can negotiate those damned striker planes after watching the Insanity DVD replay and seeing where they appear. A slow ship like the Raiden mk-II can best deal with their pot shots by making broad sweeps around the screen.
Phase 2: The super-tank boss still gives me problems. I one-lifed the game until I reached the boss, which killed me twice. I reached the true final boss on my last life, and somehow miraculously survived its choreography of bullet spam on two bombs.
Final score: 138,571,864 (I would have had well over 140 million if I did not mess up in Level 15)
Enjoy the movie, and feel free to mirror it!

The medal wasn't full-sized by the time I uncovered the Miclus. I missed a few medals early on (all of which I needed to get a full-sized 2,048,000-point medal before the Miclus) trying to get the 100,000x8 Fairy. A faster ship could easily dash and grab the 100,000x8 Fairy and rush back down to fuse the medals from all three tanks.LRa wrote:Nice but you could have done better on the first lvl easily. Getting the big medal before the little blue guy, and blowing the medals he gives.
A fused medal must be full-sized (purple) before I grab it and explode 9 medals afterwards in order to get the gold medals to appear. I could have done this, but I would have to ignore the 100,000x8 Fairy combo since my ship is too slow.

IMO you could get it before the Miclus. You've missed some medals before the 3 tanks and you've also taken and not absorbed few medals after the tanks blew.Alluro wrote:The medal wasn't full-sized by the time I uncovered the Miclus. The reason I'm saying this is positive feedback.
I missed those medals on purpose in the replay. I gave up having gold medals in Level 01 to get the 100,000x8 Fairy. Yes, I know you can get the full-sized fused medal before the Miclus. I've done it in this video here using the Ixion:LRa wrote:IMO you could get it before the Miclus. What ship do you normally use? My ship, the Raiden mk-II, is far too slow to, if I commit to the 3-tank 100,000x8 Fairy combo, fuse all 12 medals from the three big tanks (especially the group of four from the bottom tank) AND grab the Fairy at 100,000x8.
I will explain in detail. There are several reasons why I purposely miss those medals when I commit to the 100,000x8 Fairy combo: it takes around 1.5 seconds for the Raiden mk-II to travel from where I dropped the bomb to the location where of the "bottom" tank. After dropping the bomb after the Fairy pops out of the bottom tank, I am doing several things at once:
- Ensuring the "bottom" tank does not shoot in order keep the Quick Shot bonus for it still active
- Destroying the "bottom" tank at the same instant as the two top tanks in order to get the triangle of Destroyed at a Times which makes the Fairy worth 100,000x8. I also have to shoot the top right tank in order for all three tanks to explode at nearly the same instant.
- Ensuring the tank at the bottom explodes at the same instant my fused medal is overlapping the tank so that the cluster of four medals released by the tank will be absorbed into my large fused medal AND I don't accidentally pick up any of the medals the tank releases.
- I don't want to accidentally collect my fused medal, so I have to make a downward arc to avoid my fused medal and haul my slow ass to try to grab the Fairy when it's worth 100,000x8. My combo expires before I can grab the Fairy. A combo is active for 3 seconds, the length of time that one bonus message (QUICK SHOT!, DESTROYED AT A TIME!, etc.) stays on screen. That split second in which I make the downward arc is a split second too long. I did not go down as far on the screen in that replay in order for me to make it to the Fairy at 100,000x8. That is the main reason why I missed the two medals from the bottom tank and ended up just grabbing 100pt medals indiscriminately from that point on.
Finally, the fused medal carries itself over to Level 05, which is one of the other requirements to get three DX bonuses in that level (the other is to already have the gold medals appearing). The medal is worth, medal pickup-wise, the number of smaller medals you fused to make that medal, so by the end of Level 05 on that replay, I got a hefty 15-million-point end-of-level bonus which still brought up my score at a much higher value than ever before as the mk-II (42 million compared to my usual 31-35 million).

It is you who are not very smart for not knowing the difference between "positive feedback" and "constructive criticism." What you offered was constructive criticism, not positive feedback.LRa wrote:I can see you're not very smart.

The fact that english is my third language and I didn't find a better term, the usage of positive feedback was clear enough to make my point.undamned wrote:LRa wrote:...you could have done better on the first lvl easily.LRa wrote:The reason I'm saying this is positive feedback. It is you who are not very smart for not knowing the difference between "positive feedback" and "constructive criticism." I'm now working on another shmup to 1CC. It's an old-school arcade shmup called Gemini Wing (Tecmo 1987).
I've seen this game only twice in the arcades, once in 1988 (that green walrus boss in stage 1 gave me nightmares as a young'un) in a mall arcade and the second time about 14 years later in a Mexican restaurant.
It's a big change going back to an old-school shmup after playing so many modern shmups with their highly-contrasting glowing orbs for bullets, pixel-size hitboxes, and panic bombs. Gemini Wing doesn't even have panic bombs, nothing to clear the screen of bullets.
My best efforts to date can take me to Stage 4 with a score of 420K, where I spam Gunballs (the special weapons spheres that trail your ship) in order to survive, and the thunder completely throws me off.

Hey Alluro, both of your links are now down (since http://www.rf-emporium.net/ is down)
I was wondering if you still have the .inp for mame so that people can still watch this awesome replay.
Or is there already mirror for the .inp file?
Thanks!
