Re-modding the dreamcast stick

Post by fraggore »

Well from the resent release of street fighter 4 on the 360 I have dug out my old dreamcast stick and I am going to put a sanwa joystick in it i was wondering which model of sanwa fit in these sticks as there is few different models I’ve been looking at the Sanwa Joystick JLF-TP-8Y without the mounting plate but I am not shore if i will need the one with the plate so if any of you have converted your stick can you please let me know which one to get.

I modded the stick a few years ago when i was making super guns and selling them on ebay so i desided it would be cool to have one inside the reamcast stick so i got an extra long jamma cable and converted it. also as the most console had ps2 joypad adapters i converted it to ps2 leaving the old dc circuits there just in case i wanted to swap it back.

here is a few pic forgive the quility as there were taken on my phone.

one without the plate :) - the plate doesn't fit/add any advantage.

Plus, removing the plate is a pain in the arse because the pre-fixed plates are not only screwed but also sealed in with a kind of plastic melt/fold - nice attention to detail but pain to take off.

I removed the dc stick's screw in holes (raised from the surface) and cut the 'wings' off the sanwa stick so that it fitted tight in the dc case lip ... alternativey could leave the wings on the stick and file/dremel down the lip but didn't want to risk have the dc's surfaceuneven where the stick would sit (slightly paranoid :P)

The dc has a nice hollow beneath the faceplate that allows you use basically any kind of bolt to attach the stick using the sticks existing outer holes (I really like these since you get a good fit and is pretty non destructive if you ever need/fancy to swap out the stick).

Couple of other ways to do it I'm sure but this struck me as the easiest and seems perfect on height of stick for me - I've heards some people for seimitsus (?) added washers to adjust height (?).... don't know if anyone else has a definitive measurement/opinion on this?

ps. any links on internet for guides that seem missing - check www.archive.org is where I found one that i got most my info from if I remember right.

Hope this ramble helps :P
